Chapter Fifty Nine: Happily Ever After...

Start from the beginning

As the matter with David came to its conclusion, Alexandra found herself concerned over Valek. Initially, he had refused discussing what had happened after they had left. With much poking, prodding, and arguing, Valek finally told them about the single blow that had ended the former lord's life.

Soon enough, Valek went back to the academy to take part in their counseling program. At first Alexandra had been worried, that Valek would not be completely forthcoming, she knew his hate of discussing feelings. However, Mark had reassured her that he would keep a close and watchful eye over his cousin; making her relax, if only a little.

As the week went by, soon the curtain of sadness covering the castle was lifted.

Preparations were underway for the first royal wedding in almost thirty seven years, which would be held at the end of November, giving the castle workers roughly two weeks to prepare. Relishing about the short window of time she had given them to organize, Alexandra couldn't help but feel pleased for helping the castle feel back to normal. It seemed a lifetime ago, that she had caused such chaos.

Admittedly, she had been worried at how the lords and Dukes would react to her unrehearsed announcement, but neither house opposed, in fact it seemed as though they were all looking forward to celebrating such a joyous occasion.

Finding herself and Sophia sitting in her room on the bed swamped with planning the wedding and lists of people they would have to decide on whether or not to invite, she found her thoughts straying to Nicholas.

It still amazed her that he had wanted to marry her. In fact, what surprised her more was that he agreed they should not have to wait too long to do so, giving Alexandra the feeling that both she and Nicholas had done their fair share of waiting for one another.

"Alex? Alex! You're not even listening!" Sophia snapped the Queen out of her thoughts.

"Of course, I am, Soph..." Alexandra wracked her mind trying to think of what the girl had been saying. Defeated, she looked over to Sophia. "What were we talking about again?"

Sighing, Sophia threw a pillow at her, which Alexandra neatly caught.

"I was telling you that Samuel and I have decided to enjoy our engagement, and plan the wedding properly, we don't want to stress over the details and rush it the way you are." She smirked, taking a shot at the Queen.

"Rushing isn't for everyone." Alexandra said, dryly. "Besides...Nick and I have been waiting for this day to come for a long time."

"It certainly feels that way, doesn't it?" Sophia said, agreeing.

Thinking back to all the time they had spent apart for one reason or another, only to be together in the end, she couldn't help but agree.

"Yes, it does." Alexandra smiled.

.....

"Are you sure that's what you want for the dress, Alex?" He heard his sister's voice as he neared the Seamstress' quarters.

"Yes, I'm definitely sure." He heard Alexandra's voice.

"Alright, Your Majesty, I will get straight to work on it then." Mrs. Baker said sounding rather resigned, as he was about to peer inside.

A squeal sounded before he could even take in what they were all gathered around. Sophia forcefully pushed him outside.

"Wait outside, Nicholas." She said, sounding annoyed. "Have you not been taught any manners? You're supposed to knock before you enter!"

"Sorry."

Stifling a laugh, he could see his younger sister was taking wedding matters quite seriously. Leaning against the wall, he waited patiently.
