Kasey POV
"Do you, Kasey Stark, take Wanda Maximoff to be your lawfully wedded wife? Will you honor and cherish her, continue to deepen your understanding of her, and treat her with love and compassion in joy and pain, sickness and health, and whatever life might throw your way?" the pastor said.
Listening to those words I knew damn well my father had something to do with it. Smooth dad.
I looked down at my hands that were holding those of the near complete stranger of a woman standing before me. I took a deep breath while moving my gaze up to her eyes. She looked like she was miles away herself. "I do."
Those two words felt so heavy. Not that I didn't want to get married someday but Wanda and I hadn't spoken since college. We never were friends. More like we had mutual friends which gave us an excuse to be in the same room together. For some reason I always felt like she hated me.
"Do you, Wanda Maximoff, take Kasey Stark to be your lawfully wedded wife? Will you honor and cherish her, continue to deepen your understanding of her, and treat her with love and compassion in joy and pain, sickness and health, and whatever life might throw your way?" He repeated again to her.
She just stood there not saying anything. The pastor cleared his throat, but she didn't budge. I looked up at him and then back to her. I gently squeezed her hand and ran my fingers over her knuckles, "Wanda." I whispered as low as I could.
Once she heard me say her name and the feeling of my thumbs rubbing over her knuckles, she blinked a few times before looking up at me. I moved my head towards the pastor, and she looked up at him confused. "Say I do." I whispered again to her as low as I could.
She shook her head clearing her throat, "I do." She looked back down at my hands on hers. It was as if she was avoiding looking at me the entire time.
The pastor finished up the ceremony script. "I now pronounce you married. Kasey you may kiss your bride."
I looked up at the ceiling swallowing hard. Of course, I had thought about this part, but I wasn't sure how to handle it. I leaned down towards her, and she leaned in slightly as well. I noticed her hesitation, so I closed to gap and pressed my lips to hers. I felt a small jolt against my lips.
I pulled away after a few seconds. I opened my eyes at the same time as she was to see a frown on her face. Did she feel that too? I chose to let it go and ignore it since now we had to put on the show as I like to call it.
Drowning out the clapping around us I held her hand and practically pulled her to keep up with my pace as we exited the church. When I made it passed the doors and seen the car that was going to be taking us to the reception, I opened the door for her, and she slid inside.
She was sitting close to the other side of the car when I sat down and closed the door. Once the door was closed, I moved myself to the opposite side of the car. I reached in my jacket on the inside and pulled out a flask. I took a huge sip trying to calm my nerves. All I could think about was her.
I looked over at Wanda who was lost in her thoughts just looking out the window as we drove. I cleared my throat, "Wanda are you okay?"
She looked over at me not saying anything for a moment. I couldn't read her very well. She didn't look happy, mad, or sad. It was void. Then she moved her gaze back out of the window. "Why do you care? You and your family are the only ones benefiting from this after all." Her tone was a mix of venom and disgust.
I was a bit caught off guard by her comment. I knew this probably wouldn't be easy for her. We had not spoken since the meeting with our fathers. This may not be a marriage of love, but I am a person of honor and respect. I scoffed at her out of frustration, "I think you're forgetting something here Wanda. I am just as much a hostage in this entire thing as you are."
