Tsukishima had talked Yamaguchi into taking history in the summer to get ahead. Yamaguchi didn't mind since they were taking the class together, and there was no homework. The hours weren't long, but classes did start earlier than they would in the normal year.

Yamaguchi hadn't gotten a very good night of sleep. His neighbors were doing construction next door, and all he heard were the ringing of drill guns and the pounding of the jackhammer as it crushed the concrete.

He showed up to school with a headache, and he was so sleepy that he couldn't even keep his eyes open. The teacher assigned the class a documentary to watch and take notes about. He fought sleep so hard, but eventually, his eyes began to droop shut.

He was a light sleeper, so he heard when the assignment changed and the classroom lights went on. They had to do a vocabulary assignment online through this website called Quizlet. There were 26 big boring words. He was not having it. He dropped his head onto the computer with a groan. Tsukishima, who sat in the desk to the left of him, saw this.

"Come on, it's not too bad." he told his friend.

"I'm gonna drop out." he muttered out.

"No, you won't." Tsuki answered. The boy always said such things but never meant them.

"Let me be delusionalll.." he whined. Tsukishima laughed. Yamaguchi left his head down, closing his eyes for a good fifteen minutes before begrudgingly lifting his head to do his work. He started off with Flashcards, not truly reading them and flipping by so that it was marked complete. Then, he moved on to the Learn portion, memorizing the word to the pictures rather than the definitions. He did the same with the Test and Matching sections. He had Writing and Spelling left, the two hardest ones in his eyes because he had to know the words and the spelling. Instead, he opened up another tab with the vocabulary list and copied and pasted the names to each word.

After completing and submitting the online assignment, he put his head down once again. This didn't last very long because the teacher announced that they posted a new assignment. Tsukishima opened it up, and then the teacher pulled up a sideshow on the classroom TV from her computer, showing notes. Yamaguchi kicked his feet with a whine.

"It's not that bad. It's only six pages." Tsukishima told the boy, Yamaguchi replied with nothing but a huff and the kicking of his feet again. It really wasn't that bad. Normally, it was 9 pages, but he was sleepy and a little bit fussy as his littlespace began to push its way into his mind. He whined, his head down over his arms on the table. "Don't cry. You'll survive." Tsukishima spoke to the boy as a joke, not even knowing that Yamaguchi did, in fact, have tears in his eyes.

"I wanna go home.." he mumbled, his words muffled as he spoke into his arm.

"We're almost done, only four more hours." Tsukishima told the boy, unsure of why the boy was acting like he was. He knew the boy was beyond tired, but he never saw him behave such a way in school.

"That's like 100,000 minutes away." he huffed. He wasn't having it. Tsukishima rolled his eyes. He was just being dramatic. It was only 240 minutes.

The lunch bell rang, and he got up in a slump, dragging behind Tsukishima. He didn't want to eat, and Tsukishima had eaten a snack in class, so he wasn't hungry either. They took a seat on a cement curb near a garden. Yamaguchi climbed up on Tsukishima, sitting on his lap and resting his head on the boy's chest.

"What are you.. What are you doing?" Tsukishima asked, surprised by the boy's actions. The boy whined again.

"S'eepy.." he whispered. Tsukishima laid a hand on the boy's back and then heard soft cries.

"What's wrong, Yams?" Tsukishima asked worriedly.

"Wan' go home.." he cried. He had completely regressed.

"Shh.. it's okay.." Tsukishima hushed. He stood up with the boy in his arms and walked back into the empty classroom. He sat him in his desk and kneeled in front of him. "What's wrong, Yams?" he asked again. He knew it was something deeper than sleepiness and wanting to go home.

"Ahh." the boy made out, pointing to his mouth, his cries still continuing on. Tsukishima didn't know what he meant. Why wasn't the boy speaking? A pout formed on the regressed boy's lips as he cried even more, frustratedly kicking his feet.

"Shh.. it's okay, calm down." Tsukishima spoke softly. He picked up the boy's bag, unzipping it. "Can you write? Draw? Show me what's wrong, anything. I'm trying to help, but I can't if I don't know what you want." Yamaguchi sucked in his bottom lip, pointing to his bag. "Book?" He shook his head. "Headphones?" He shook his head again, slipping his fingers into his mouth.

Tsukishima didn't find anything appealing in the big pocket, mostly school stuff that he probably didn't want. The answers to his questions were given to him as he opened the smaller pocket that had the boy's little gear. Confusement grew on his face, unsure why the boy had such things but shrugged it off.

"Pease?" Yamaguchi spoke softly. He made grabby hands towards a small bag in the pocket. Tsukishima opened it, finding a variety of teethers and a pacifier. He took out the pacifier and held it up, watching as the boy's eyes lit up. He slipped it into the boy's mouth and saw the boy quickly relax. His silent tears slowly began to fade away as he rubbed at his eyes sleepily. He suckled on the soother, reaching for Tsukishima once again.

He picked up the boy, sitting in his spot as he held him on his lap. The boy wrapped his arms around his neck and laid his head against his chest as his eyes began to close shut.

Tsukishima had no idea what it was that was happening. But he did understand that it was some sort of thing helping the boy relax. A unique thing, really. By now, he understood that the boy was basically a child, and by his behavior, a child in the ages 1-3. A little boy.

He bounced his leg, rubbing the boy's back soothingly as he heard quiet snores. He had fallen asleep. He leaned down to pick up the boy's things and put them away bag into the bag.

He was taken aback to their childhood when he had first met Yamaguchi. He definitely wasn't as young, but they were still children. Yamaguchi was a sweet little boy. He was probably 7 or 8 when they met, and he was often taken advantage of for being such a nice kid. Tsukishima remembered his soft voice and his shyness. He would get embarrassed for the smallest things, and he always found that adorable. Now, he got to experience that all over again. That is, if the boy welcomed him into this piece of his life.
