Welcome to yet another chapter of 'my life sucks.'

Today, I tell you how I managed to be fashionably two hours late for one of the most crucial family gatherings ever. Why? Because Swaraj decided to reject yet another colour palette for our project.

I made sure to submit my designs on time before leaving for Pune, relieved when Miss Sunita picked mine. But then the team had their say, making changes which I didn't mind at first, we are a team after all.

Yet Swaraj, that irritating chicken-faced bitch, insisted on changing the colour palette nine times in the past day alone. It's like he has a personal grudge against every hue of shade I pick.

So, despite waking up early today, all excited and ready to meet my future sister-in-law, I had to stay back to fix things, which explains my embarrassingly late arrival.

I stare down at my phone on my lap under the table, looking at yet another 'rejected' ― slash ― 'not suitable' ― slash ― 'we could do better' message in the group by Swaraj, eliciting a groan of protest from me.

I hope he falls in the gutter and gets shampoo in his eyes whenever he bathes, only to crash-land on the bathroom tiles and karma flush him down the toilet ― Okay, Anika, that's enough.

"Anika beta, is everything alright?" Neeraj Mehra asks, scanning my annoyed face.

I just nod in response, flashing him a bright — well, fake bright — smile. I can't tell him how miserable my life has been ever since I joined M & Co.

I shuffled uncomfortably on the seat, examining the interior of this 5-star restaurant my family booked for our meeting. And since Aditya bhai is 'busy' with work — at least, that's what I had to tell everyone to justify his absence and secure my new iPad.

Typical of him to skip out on family gatherings.

I'd seen my soon-to-be sister-in-law: long jet-black hair, pretty eyes, and dimples. Omygod. But I couldn't help but wonder what she was like in person. Of course, we exchanged a few words earlier before she had to leave for some urgent work — she's a lawyer, after all.

And I didn't mind her leaving as much, considering Aditya didn't even bother to show up.

She was charming, no doubt, but a brief conversation wasn't enough to truly know someone, was it?

Her father, however, is nice. He's polite, and his eyes sparkle whenever he talks about Bhai. It gave me this warm, comforting feeling that perhaps, Maa and Papa had chosen the right person for him.

"So, Mr. Kashyap? Our kids didn't get the chance to meet up, hamari taraf se to ha hai par baccho ki sehmati bhi zaroori hai." Neeraj Uncle spoke, his tone carrying a hint of formality as he glanced at my mom, who nodded eagerly in anticipation.
