Dehradoon was decided for the first year students, while Second year students were excited to go to Shimla. The third years were preparing to go to Darjeeling.
It was a bit of a disappointment for Kian, but he refrained it from showing it to anyone. He was even thinking of dropping form the yearly trip. He was in no mood to go there.
That day he arrived with a mind to withdraw his name. He came to the locker in the changing room, to get ready for the basketball practice. As soon as he opened the locker, he found a piece of paper neatly folded. He narrowed his eyes and picked it up. He opened it to read a single line in beautiful calligraphy.
'Do not drop. I have a surprise for you at Shimla.'
He could recognize the handwriting even in his sleep. He smiled. Naina could be quite handful.
The day soon arrived for the trip. Kian loosely pulled Kartik in his arms and bid him goodbay as the later departed to Dehradoon.
He himself boarded the bus that would take them to the railway station where they had bookings for Shimla. It was a four day trip to Shimla. First three days went in haze. Kian did not find any surprise in these three days. The trip was engaging and enthralling. Vast and lush green valleys and white snow coated mountains and the youngsters forget their worth. The beauty of the Himalayas was worth the sight and efforts.
It was already the last day and they had been scheduled to spend the night in tents. The group reached a pleteau around afternoon. After they had a hearty lunch, the group was taken for a small trek. By the time everyone came back, the dinner preparations were in full swing. Small tents were being set up, enough for a single person to sleep in. The weather was getting chillier with every passing hour. Kian wondered what surprise Naina had been talking of. He then smiled to himself, thinking how he smoothly fell in her trap. How could she manage anything while she herself was in a different city?
As the night started growing, the environment became more enthusiastic. Bonfire was lit up and the young minds let go of themsleves. They were lost in hot piping food, blasting music and the cold that enveloped them all, taking their experience to a new dimension.
It was somewhere after the midnight, when the teachers intervened and ordered the students to take up their tents and rest for the night.
Kian too, occupied a tent and pushed himself in the warm covers. The night slowly got darker and the figure lurking in the dark for so long finally slithered towards Kian's tent.
Kian was lost in deep slumber when she stealthily moved in his tent and zipped it back. the tent was too small for her liking and the young man was wrapped tightly in the warm comforter.Kian stirred in his sleep when she stroked his eyebrow lightly. She could hold herself no more and slithered in the warmth of the bedding. Kian was startled as he opened his eyes by the unexpected proximity. She immidiately held her palms on his lips to stop him from screaming.
"Kian! It's me. Relax" She whispered.
"Kian sat up with a jolt. "Naina? What are you doing here? You were supposed to be in Dehradoon?"
She pulled him back on the mattress. "I am where I should be."
Kian was still in shock. He blinked when she kissed his jaw and sighed in content. A warm breath tickled his neck and he gave in to the budding desires. That night none of them held back. There was no one, not even the roumers, that could stop them. The chill in the weather worked as a catalyst and Kian let go of all the apprehensions and listened to his body, for the first time. Nothing was unexplored and untouched when the chill was replaced by the warmth that was exchanged between two shades of skin.
By the time moon said its goodbyes and Sun came back shining brightly and warming the universe visible to the human eye, Kian was all alone in the tent. She came like a gentle waft of fragrance and left him fulfilled and yet longing for more.
The students came back to Mumbai after a hearty trip. Kian body came back, but he left his senses and beautiful memories of the night in Shimla.
Naina did not realize that the new of the stunt she pulled would reach her home, even before she could.
She was in for a round of confrontation from her father and her elder brother, Shantanu, as soon as she stepped in her home.
"You were missing on the last night from Dehradoon." Her father had asked her.
"That's not true, Dad. I was in Dehradoon itself. I don't know who gave you wrong information." She denied with a straight face.
A sharp slap could not break her resolve to keep silent. She was asked again and again, but she remained firm on her answer.
Kian was shocked to know about this, when she met him in the green room.
"Do something, Kian. Whatever we have, I don't want this to end." She pleaded.Kian was clueless as to what he could do to save her from the monsters. Her lip was healing from the cut that the gem in her father's ring gave her.
He stroked her lip and she winced in pain, sending him on another ride of guilt. He was well aware that something like this could happen.
"Let's get married." He said out of nowhere and she looked up at him shocked.
"What?" She asked as if to confirm what she heard was true.
"Do we have any other choice? We get married an then no one can stop us from doing what we want." He suggested.
She blinked at him with disbelief.
"And... then what?""We will figure out something. I mean its not easy. But you see, law is on our side. We are consenting adults. No one can stop us. ONce we take that step, we can fight the world." He made it sound so easy that she found it believable and doable.
Kian's phone was not reachble the entire day and his parents were worried and so was Kartik. He came back home saying that he could not find Kian and his bike in the parking.
Mr. Kaushal Goenka was about to contact police when Kian walked in holding Naina's hand and garlands around their neck. The world stopped for the Goenka's.
