Warnings: Mentioning and talking about self-harm

Leonora PoV:

Sitting in class, I watched as everyone was reading in their books. Everyone else this year was doing alright, but this class had their problems. And so it wasn't rare that I screamed at them or called them names. It wasn't the right way to approach them, but they just made me so frutrated I couldn't help myself.

Sitting in said class, I looked around the room. They all tried, but improvement was far away. There was one student that really tried. And said student always looked the most hurt when I yelled at the whole class. I wish I could exclude her, but she wasn't much better than the others. And no one gets a special treatment from me.

Looking around the class, I spotted her. Y/n. A girl with the ability to control fire. I had high hopes for her when she first arrived, but it soon turned out that it lacked in motivation to really use those powers and learn how to control them.

She just stared blankly at the book, playing with her rings. There was something about this girl, I couldn't quite explain.

Walking around my table, I started to stride around the room. I could see with the short glances on their papers, that only half of them knew what they were doing. Sadly, Y/n was no expetion. She was even worse than the others. Not even one single thing was written down.

Slamming my cane onto her desk, I glared down at her. She winced back, her hands pulling her sleeves further down. "Class is dismissed. You will stay."

I didn't move, keeping my position until every student left the room. With a flick of my hand, the door locked, leaving us alone. You could see the fear flodding into her eyes, as she stared up at me.

"You haven't even written down one thing, Y/n. Was playing with your rings that much more important?" My voice was harsh, leaving no room for lies. "N-no, ma'am. I-I am sorry." Her gaze was down, focused on the desk, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Care to explain why?" She shook her head slowly. This was something I didn't expect. "No? I see…" I leaned forward and grabbed her arm to pull her up, but stopped when she let out a pain filled cry and pulled her arm away.

"Did you get hurt?" My voice was a bit more soft than before, my gaze still not leaving her. "Answer me, Y/n. Did you get hurt?" She was shaking a bit, her face turned away from me. It was clear that she was scared, but that didn't mean I would just leave her alone.

"If you got hurt, we need to treat it. I can't have my students walk around with injuries." Kneeling down slowly to not seem as threatening, I saw a tear drop from her eye. Slight worry overcame me, as I placed both of my hands onto her desk.

"I won't be mad if you tell me. I promise you can talk to me." She looked over at me slightly. As tired as her eyes looked right now, I have never seen her before. She seemed like a completely changed person. But not to the better.

"Y-you… won't get m-mad?" The words where whispered sobs, as she wiped away her tears. "I promise I won't get mad. Just talk to me, Y/n." Her body language changed, as she turned more to me. Her eyes were filled with pain and regret.

"I'm sorry…" she whispered as she pulled up the sleeve of the arm I had just tried to grab. My eyes widened slightly as I saw the scars and fresh cuts and for the first time since I can remember, I got tears in my eyes.

"W…what?" My voice was breaking, even though I tried to pull myself together. Forcing myself to look back up into her face, I took a deep breath. "Did you…?" She nodded slowly, her tired eyes staring back into mine. I stood back up, wiping my eyes clean from my tears. People could say what they wanted about me, but I still cared about my students. Maybe even more than Clarissa did.

"Come here," I whispered, holding open my arms. She hesitated a bit before she got up and hugged me tightly. Wrapping my arms around her, I started to rub her back. "No matter what happens, or what I or anybody else tells you, talk to me before doing this again, okay?" She didn't react, but I could hear how she started to cry even more.

"I will always listen. Even in the middle of the night." I looked down at her. Imagining having a student that does something like this is hard enough. And then really dealing with this is a point in my life I hoped never to encounter.

I dealt with mobbing and helped students get better. But nothing till now was really this serious. "I… I am sorry," she whispered against me before looking up. I could feel something break inside of me. Something I wasn't sure of what it truely was.

"It's okay now. We got this, okay?" She nodded slowly, still slightly shaking. "And as I said before. Talk to me. Whenever, whereever. You even get my permission to come visit me in my private chambers if you need to." There was a slight smile on her lips as she chuckled a bit. "T-thank you." I nodded and took another deep breath, continuing to hold her in my arms.
