I'm waiting for him to come back for the past thirty minutes and each passing second is making me even more mad at him than I was before.
Where the hell is he?
I pace in the bathroom and wait for him. He must've left me here to attend the dinner on his own... Asshole.
I take out my phone from my purse and I'm about to call him when I hear a knock on the bathroom door. I dash towards it and quickly open it. "Where were you?!" I glare up at him.
He hands me a bag. "Change it and come out quickly. They're here."
I look at the bag. "What is this?"
"It's a dress!" He glares down at me, clenching his jaw. "Now, go and change it."
I roll my eyes and close the door. I put the bag on the counter and look inside. There's a black dress inside, I take it out and look at it. It's strapless with velvet fabric. It's simple but beautiful. I change into this black dress and it ends on just above my knees. It fits perfectly. How did he get my perfect size?
I turn around to look at my back and the zipper of this dress is open. I move all of my hair around on one side and try to zip it up. I hear a knock on the door. "Hurry up!" I hear his voice.
"Just a moment." I say and try to pull the zipper up.
The muscles of my arms starts to ache now. I keep trying but I'm unable to pull the zipper upwards. Suddenly the door opens. "What the hell are you-" He looks at me and my back is completely bare. I feel heat in my cheeks.
"Couldn't you wait a little?" I glare at him despite my heart beating so fast.
I'm still trying to zip it up when he speaks "Why the hell are you taking so long?" He shoots a glare at me.
"If you open your stupid eyes you'll see I'm trying to zip it up!" I snap at him. He sighs and walks closer to me. He stops just behind me and looks down at the zipper.
I look at him through the mirror as he clenches his jaw and takes the zipper, his hand brushing against my fingers. The side of my neck and back is all exposed. I feel my cheeks getting flushed and my heart is beating even faster. He looks at me in the mirror and I feel the zipper moving upwards. His whiskey, hazel eyes piercing through mine.
I feel the zipper getting stuck. He looks down at it and tugs at the fabric to move the zipper but it makes me lean back into him. My back is almost pressing against his chest. Almost.
He's so close that I feel his breath on my neck and I feel like I'm dying. My breath hitches at his closeness. The zipper finally moves all the way up, covering my back. We look at each other in the mirror again for a second before he pulls away.
He steps back and opens the bathroom door. "Let's go." He walks out and I follow, with my heart still pounding.
I get out and he turns to look down at me. "Listen to me." I raise an eyebrow at him. He speaks in a low voice "They know we're married.." I look at him, confused. He sighs "We have to... act like a married couple, okay?" Both of my eyebrows shoots upward. "That's what's better if we want them to invest in our collection." He says. "We have to be convincing, okay?"
"So... we have to... pretend?" I ask.
He nods. "Yes, make sure to look convincing."
Little does he know I don't have to pretend... His jaw tightens as he holds out his hand for me to take. I look at his hand and then up at him. "I know you don't want to do it, me neither but we have to."
And what if I say I want to? I reluctantly take his hand. The moment my skin touches his, I feel a shiver running down my spine.
He intertwines our fingers and starts walking towards the table where they're sitting. I feel my heart pounding even more now. I've never held his hand. And I don't want to let it go.
We both reach the table Carlos is sitting on with his wife. After the greetings we both sit down across from them and he lets go of my hand. I pull my hand back to myself.
The dinner is going well for an hour or so. We've talked about the business deal and now we're eating. Classic music is playing around the restaurant.
"So, When did you both get married?" Carlos's wife, Lauren Martin, asks.
"In july." I say and politely smile.
She nods and smiles back. "Who confessed first?" She asks.
I have no idea what to say. I glance at Devin beside me who's glancing at me, wondering the same thing. I let out an awkward laugh trying to think of an answer. "I did.." He says and I nod.
"So you both know each other since your childhood?" Martin asks.
"Yes, our parents are friends with each other." I say.
"That's so cute, how you both fell in love and now you're married." Lauren says. I feel a blush forming on my cheeks. We both let out an awkward laugh, trying to appear like a normal couple.
The music changes and now there's a romantic song playing in the restaurant. I hold my glass of wine and bring it to my lips, taking a sip. "Can you pass me a napkin...darling?" Devin says to me and I almost choke. I look at him and he's giving me a look that tells me to play along.
I smile and nods. "Sure..." I pass him the napkin and I try to ignore how my fingers brushes against his. I clear my throat to clear some of the tension.
"They both look so good together, right honey?" Lauren says and looks at Carlos. He nods.
I feel my stomach fluttering. We look good together. I smile and this time it's genuine.
I glance at him beside me and he smiles too but I know it's not his real smile. I always know when he's faking a smile and when he's genuinely smiling. His dimples form in his cheeks whether his smile is fake or real.
But there's a tiny dimple that forms on the corner his lips only when he genuinely smiles. I know that about him. His fake smile won't form that tiny dimple but it appears when he's actually smiling. That tiny dimple isn't there right now.
"The music is so romantic, isn't it?" Lauren says.
Carlos glances at her. "Do you want to dance, honey?" He asks, offering her his hand. Lauren smiles and takes his hand. She looks at us.
Is she expecting us to dance too? Devin notices this too and clears his throat. He turns to look at me. "Would you like to dance with me....babe?" He asks me, offering his hand to me and I feel like my stomach is going to explode with butterflies.
"Sure." I say and take his hand. We all get up from our seats and move to the open area of the restaurant. Devin leads me there, holding my hand. I feel my heart pounding in my chest.
Carlos and Lauren start dancing. Devin looks down at me and wraps his arms around my waist. I feel his touch through my dress and the shiver that comes with it. I wrap my arms around his neck and we start dancing as the music goes on.
Devin glances at Lauren and Carlos and they're laughing and whispering things to each other. Devin looks back at me and leans closer to the side of my face. "Smile at me." I can feel his breath on my ear and the nape of my neck. I turn my head a little to look into his hazel eyes. He's so close that I can see his irises in his eyes.
I feel my heart going crazy and beating even faster. I smile at him and he smiles back. The tiny dimple doesn't form. "I think we look convincing." He says, smiling.
I nod and keep my smile on my face. I don't want this moment to end. I know it's not real but I don't want it to end.
