The breeze was cold as I walked outside making my cheeks turn a soft pink, the snow crunched under my feet.

The first school week had passed since the new year and today was my first shift back at Luke's.

"Morning." I chimed walking into the diner.

"Matilda, go get started on a new batch of coffee." Luke said popping up from begins the counter.

"What are you doing?" I asked walking up to him.

"Fixing stuff." He huffed laying back on the floor.

"What stuff?" I asked.

"Shelf stuff." He said leaning under the counter with a hammer in his hand.

"Aha." I answered before taking off my jacket and grabbing a pen and paper.

"Gonna go take some orders." I said leaning back over the counter to look at Luke.

He nodded before banging another nail into the back of the counter.

I heard the loud voices of Rory and Lorelai walk into the diner and sit down at a table behind me.

I took a deep breath before turning around and going to take their orders.

Me and Rory still hadn't spoken after our fight and the house felt quiet without us together. I did miss being her friend but it was her time to step up and take responsibility for her actions.

"Hey, what can I get you guys?" I said putting in a fake smile for Lorelai.

Lorelai hadn't figured out the our fight was that meaningful and big so she thought that it had passed a while ago.

"Two coffees, scrambled eggs with cheddar, no pepper and french toast." She said before u write it all down.

"Be back in a bit." I smiled softly before going to the kitchen to give Caesar the orders.

"Matilda." I heard Luke say from behind me.

"Yep?"

"There's new stock in the storage, go unpack it."

I headed right to the storage room and grabbed the box cutter. The boxes were filled with coffee beans, pickle jars, different kinds of jams and ice cream that I shoved straight in the freezer.

"Hey Luke?" I yelled from the storage room.

"What?" He yelled back.

"Where's Jess?" I asked.

"I have no idea." He replied.

After my shift I headed to the bookstore. I had been saving up my money for a book shopping spree.

"Hey Andrew." I smiled.

"Matilda, nice to see you. There's new shipment in the back." He said pointing to the back right corner of the store.

I walked to the back of the shop and started looking through all the new books and reading all the descriptions.

I chose 2 books that I liked the most and paid for them.

I walked home as it was already starting to get dark outside. The streets were quiet with no one in sight making me feel a bit uneasy until I remembered that its stars hollow, the safest town on earth.
