"Ouch." Said the woman with may too many trench coats on for March.
"You okay, Miss?" You lean down to help her, feeling that its only right, seeing as you did basically tackle her (accidentally).
You were only trying to take your dog for a midnight walk when her leash broke, sending Ori flying into the night. You were running to chase her down when you bumped into this woman. You didn't need to worry about Ori anymore, because the big scaredy cat of a bloodhound had come running back to you already.
Ori stared curiously as the woman raised herself up. Sunglasses (at midnight, really?) covered her eyes and she wore so many layers you wondered how she hadn't fallen without you bumping into her.
"Yes, I'm fine, thanks."
Her voice sounded vaguely familiar, like something you heard at a coffee shop once, or something. She woozily gets to her feet, and instantly tumbles again, this one having nothing to do with you.
"Whoa, you sure you're fine?" You ask as you (somehow) jump forward and catch her.
"Yes."
She mutters. Her sunglasses have fallen off, and you take a moment to appreciate her eyes as you help her to her feet. This makes her realize her sunglasses are gone, and she flies into some sort of panic, swearing intensely under her breath as she leans down to get them.
You laugh at this, "Are you undercover or something, was I not supposed to see your eyes? Are the police gonna be after me tomorrow?"
"No." She says, "Nothing like that. But I am... incognito, you could say."
You decide to investigate this later, prioritizing the fact that she absolutely cannot walk right now.
"You don't look too good, and it's probably the heat. Do you maybe wanna go to the hospital? I'll help you there, my car's just a minute away."
"No, thanks. I can't go to a hospital." The speech is clear, but you can sense her tiredness. Why not?? You want to ask.
Instead, you instruct, "Then you need to shed a few layers.""Not in public. I... Still have somewhere to go, goodbye."
"Miss, you're gonna faint!" You call after her as she begins walking away, slow and teetering.
You cautiously begin walking in the other direction, hoping she'll be fine when you hear her fall again. You turn around and rush over, and Ori rushes after you. "What did I tell you?"
Her sunglasses have fallen off, and she doesn't bother putting them back on this time. She's breathing heavily and there's sweat all over her face, reflecting the moonlight.
"Here." You offer her some of your water. She gratefully grabs and chugs almost the entire bottle, sighing as she hands it back to you.
"Better." She announces.
You decide you are not having any more of her nonsense, "Look, I don't know who you are, and I don't care. All I see is another human who is on the verge of passing out and needs help. So either shed the layers, or come to a hospital, where they'll probably make you do the same thing anyway. Besides, even if you are incognito, you think someone finding you passed out here tomorrow is gonna help with that???"
She looks stunned, but nods, slowly taking off, one, then two and then a third trench coat. This leaves her in just a simple shirt and some track pants. Her hair, buried in the coats, finally becomes visible, and the color is a beautiful lilac-y lavender, you realize. You also realize how utterly drenched in sweat she is.
"You should head home, Miss, and take several showers. I could drop you if you let me?"
"I can't." She announces. Then, out of nowhere, she says, "I've run away, from home, from my career. I was planning to head to a friend's, but they live two cities over."
