Chapter two

Third person view

Isaac had just gone to bed in Ron's room when he was woken by Mrs. Weasley.

"Time to get up, Isaac, dear," she whispered, moving away to wake Harry and Ron.

At the foot of his mattress, Isaac saw two large, disheveled shapes emerging from a tangle of covers.

"Is it time yet?" Fred said groggily.

They dressed in silence, too sleepy to speak, then, yawning and stretching, the four of them went downstairs to the kitchen. Isaac was so sleepy that he had forgotten to tie the laces of his Converse sneakers and had practically tripped and fallen down the stairs.

"I hate my life..." Isaac groaned as he stood up.

'No one told me I had to be up so early...' Isaac heard Ron think, which almost made him trip again. Legilimency had not shown any signs of life since second year; perhaps he was finally showing his face again? Mrs. Weasley was stirring the contents of a large pot on the stove, while Mr. Weasley sat at the table, checking a stack of large parchment entry tickets. He looked up as they arrived, and spread his arms wide so they could get a better look at his clothes. He was wearing what looked like a very old golf sweater and jeans, slightly too big for him, held up by a thick leather belt.

"What do you think?" he asked eagerly. "We'll have to go incognito: do I look like a Muggle?"

"Yes," Harry said with a smile, "very good."

"Where are Bill, Charlie, and Per-Per-Percy?" asked George, unable to suppress a huge yawn.

"Oh, they're going to Apparate, aren't they?" said Mrs. Weasley, carrying a large pot onto the table and starting to spoon porridge into deep plates. "They can sleep a little longer soon."

Isaac knew that Apparating was very difficult; it meant disappearing from one place and reappearing almost instantly in another.

"So they're still in bed?" said Fred grumpily, pulling a bowl of porridge towards them.

"Lucky ones..." muttered Isaac.

"Why can't we Apparate too?"

"Because they're still underage and haven't taken their exams yet," said Mrs. Weasley. "And where have those girls got to?" She hurried out of the kitchen, and everyone heard her going upstairs.

"Do you have to take an exam to Apparate?" asked Harry.

"Oh, yes," said Mr. Weasley, tucking the tickets carefully into the back pocket of his jeans. "The Department of Magical Transportation had to fine a few people the other day for Apparating without a license. It's not easy to Apparate, and if you don't do it properly, it can lead to unpleasant complications. Those two I'm talking about split in half."
