Saying Yes

I smiled, and at that moment, I wished, no more than that I forcefully desired to speak. I wanted to say something, right then and there. Perhaps a simple 'thank you.' Or just one word to describe this moment. What would I choose? Maybe, 'Gunther'? Or possibly 'love.'

But he had said that my voice was the violin, so with that in mind I gave him a shy smile and picked up my bow. I played, Ed Sheeran's 'Thinking Out Loud,' for Gunther. He seemed to understand, that even though there were tears in my eyes, I was the happiest I thought I'd ever be.

After the song, there was silence, for quite a bit.

"Ebony my dear, I had no idea, you played, that you played so well?" My mum interrupted.

I gave her I small smile, I told myself I'd write her a full apology later, but for now I typed a little, 'Sorry' and showed her the device.

"No honey, what I'm saying is that I'm just a little shocked, like I knew you liked violin and all, but I've only ever seen you fiddle around with the instrument, I had no idea you were so talented with this," Mum pointed at the violin.

"I have only just discovered, her secret myself, Mrs Richardson," Gunther told her, "but I have no idea why she wants to keep it a secret?"

I gave him a look.

"Yes Ebony, why are you hiding your talents?" my mum questioned.

I gave them a confused look and held up my hands, shrugging, as to say 'I don't know.'

"Is it shyness?" Gunther suggested.

Sort of... I typed.

"Shyness?" my mum looked confused, "You've never been afraid of voicing your own opinions at home!"

My mum and Gunther shared a laugh. Meanwhile I smirked, kind of annoyed at my mother, but kind of embarrassed. I rolled my eyes.

No but that is at home, only with you, mum. I am shy, at least at school I am.

"That's understandable," my mum shrugged.

"It is considering some of the people at our school," Gunther scoffed.

"Anyway, I should probably leave you too, and Gunther if you hurt my girl, I won't care what I have to go through to get my revenge!" mum threatened.

For a second, she looked scary! Then her fiery glare soften, as her face cracked with a smile and she laughed.

"You should see your faces, I'm joking, but Gunther, I hope all your intentions are good, not jerks are allowed in my house! Got it?" her face held little sternness this time.

"Yes madam, don't worry, I would never dream of hurting your daughter, or letting anyone hurt her," He said, with absolute seriousness, in both his tone and the emotions displayed on his face.

"Good, I'm glad, and call out if you need anything, okay?" Mum smiled as she walked out the room.

"Your mum is nice," Gunther smirked.

I gave him a questioning look.

"I wasn't being sarcastic, honestly, it's nice to see that some mothers these days actually care about who their daughters are with," His tone was serious again.

You know most mothers do care. I typed.

"Well just not the mothers I've seen," He frowned, then on a lighter note, "when I'm a father, I swear I'll always be there for my kid, honestly, there are so many fathers walking out these days, and I'm not going to be one of 'those' fathers."

I'm glad. Now should we get back to our movie? I showed him my words, with a smile.

"Just one moment, I have to say something first," he smiled, "Would you please, be my girlfriend?"

I took in a sharp breath. Girlfriend? Was I ready? Was he prepared to take me on? I'm mute for heaven's sake, this could be difficult? How would I be accepted by everyone, I'm not normal!

Are you sure?

He nodded. "Yes, of course."

Gunther, people might not accept, or like the fact that I would be in a relationship with you. I'M NOT NORMAL! People don't like different.

"Ebony, I don't care what they think! I only care about you! They can all die in a hole if they fail to see how amazing and wonderful you are! How beautiful you are! It doesn't matter if you can't speak! Not to me and I'm certain people will come to accept it too, over time!" he stared at me, "please just say yes?"

I nodded.

I'll have to talk to my mum though, let her know.

"Can I talk to her?" he smirked.

I guess...

"Ebony!" I heard my mum exclaim.

I wondered if I was in trouble.

When she came in I relaxed, clearly according to the bright smile on her face, I wasn't going to be in trouble.

"Ebony, of course, but," my mum looked at the both of us and narrowed her eyes, "Keep it PG, or else I'll have to kill you both! Got it?"

"Yes madam, of course," Gunther smiled.

I nodded.

"So?" Gunther smiled at me once mum had left the room, "since you're my girlfriend, would you be allowed to come to my sisters nineteenth?"

I guess so. If it's just a family event, but are you certain your family won't mind?

"I told them last week, that I'd be bringing along my girlfriend," he laughed.

I gave him a look, but couldn't hide my smirk.

We continued on with the movie and finished it around seven thirty. Then Gunther had to leave, when he left, my mum went over the top and started half lecturing me on different things and aspects of a 'healthy' relationship. "You will always have the right to say no, got it?" my mum said at one stage.

I just tried my best to hide my smiled, the whole time, and tried to keep a straight face.

"And Saturday, hat's like two days from now, so we really have to go shopping!" mum grinned.

I wanted to roll my eyes, my mum would give any excuse to take me shopping, and pick outfits, that I never really like, but she buys them anyway. Help, I wanted to type.
