"Your guardian demon, maybe." My idiocy earned a begrudging smile from her. "What's with the weird, sci-fi question?"
She shrugged. "A classmate from uni talked about it a little, and it got me thinking."
I'd never really considered the idea. Already having to deal with seeing things that would keep the average person up for nights on end, I hadn't pondered subjects as hypothetical and difficult to grasp as multiple universes.
"It's hard to imagine a life different from my own, honestly."
"But it's infinite universes," Wendy added. "There could be a you who's a rich and famous movie star. A you who's an idol. Hell, there could be a you who breathes fire."
"Too bad you're stuck with the me who's lame as hell, then."
"You're way less lame than you used to be," she offered with a shrug.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I responded with a false offended tone.
"The old you did nothing but sat at home and watched sitcoms all day," she said this with a false look of disgust. "Now you're actually getting out and stuff."
"Was there a compliment in there somewhere?"
"What I'm trying to say," she substituted her sarcasm for sincerity, "is that I'm proud of you. I'm glad you're socialising more and surrounding yourself with people."
"Against my will."
"Again, I said you could back out," she responded, keeping her eyes on the road. "Besides, aren't you having fun at all?"
Not sure if I could define meeting deities, getting jumped by demons, and spending time with vengeful ghosts as fun.
"At the very least I've probably spoken to more people—or entities, I guess—in the past month than I have in the past 5 years. Minus customers at the restaurant, but you know what I mean."
"That reminds me," Wendy said in a slightly raised voice that cut through the inside of the car. "Where were you last night?"
"I– uh..." I had thought of a story. What was it again? "I just, err, went back to check the bar out one more time. Yeah, then I met... a friend from work."
Wendy gave me side-eye with a raised eyebrow. "Further proves my point.. Hanging out with us is good for your social skills." Nice, dodged it. "Maybe next time we go to that cafe you'll have the balls to chat up that waitress you like."
"Son Seungwan, I did not–"
"Government name?!"

"Oppa, how did you figure out the thing with the jug?" Yerim asked with equal parts curiosity and enthusiasm as she walked on my right.
"I could've probably figured it out," Ildo butted in from behind us. "Didn't I warn you not to drink from that jug?"
"Shush, I wasn't talking to you," Yerim shut him down before turning back to me.
After dumping the tent bar's emerald jug into a dumpster, the group had collectively agreed on a rendezvous point close to our next destination. Yerim had approached me the moment Wendy and I arrived.
My gaze shot to Wendy, who was to my right. I'd worried that Yerim's question, or my reaction to it, would shine light on the many glaring holes in my excuse of a story. "Just lucky, I guess?"
"I hope you have luck to spare, then, Domino," Seulgi chimed in. "This next one's weird."
"How so?" Wendy asked, just as we arrived at what would be our destination.
