If you're reading this, I wanna thank you from the bottom of my heart. For putting your trust in me as an author, and in my story. A story, a passion project, a work almost 3 years in the making. One that incorporates elements of all the things I love about stories. One that pushed my writing skills to the limit, as well as my time management; work on this story started right after I initially finished writing My Greatest Award after my pre-uni, and I wrote the last chapter and epilogue at the end of my second year of med school.
With all that work that went into it, I was worried that this story would, as self-indulgent and experimental as it is, flop. Nevertheless, I'm super grateful for every single read, every vote, every comment (special s/o to Lisa_Ken for interacting with every chapter, you made a difference <3) I sincerely and genuinely hope this story resonated with you guys in one way or another, and that it managed what I set out to achieve.
As the end of the holidays slowly creep up on us (I have an exam on New Year's Eve, can you believe it lol), this isn't the end of The Next Life content just yet. As with My Greatest Award, I've prepared a playlist to serve as this story's soundtrack, which I've personally tested and can vouch for (meaning I listened to the whole thing from start to finish on my drive home and pictured the scenes each song represents). The song list goes up next Monday, the 30th, but you can look it up on Spotify right now if you can't wait: "The Next Life - Soundtrack Playlist", perfect for your inevitable re-read (jk, haha, unless; in all seriousness if you re-read there are a ton of Easter eggs and foreshadowed details that hint towards the major plot twists, all the way from the first couple of chapters).
I did mention an epilogue, didn't I?
You'll have to wait till next year for that one (haha I'm hilarious). "Epilogue - The Next Life" goes up next Thursday, the 2nd of January 2025.
You might think that that would be the end of Jang Y/N's depressing story, that you won't see him again (unless you re-read of course). But would you be wrong in assuming that? Let's just say, there's an undisclosed reason as to why that one demon in the Queen's pocket dimension knew who Jang Y/N was... The inclusion of excerpts from other fics in this story's climax wasn't just a wacky design choice. Something's brewing, with the world "multiverse" written all over it. In Marvel terms...
