Chapter 52: Fifty-Two Treasures?

Start from the beginning

The student was surprised to learn there were so many underlying reasons for Han Xin’s death.

She wanted to ask about other famous generals, but the other students couldn’t hold back any longer and began asking Xu Zhen how to become a great leader.

Xu Zhen said, “This always changes with the times. In the past, perhaps merely being skilled in martial arts sufficed, but now, you definitely need to develop comprehensively, read more, and think more.”

After she finished speaking, the students were slightly agitated.

“Will that make us famous generals?”

Xu Zhen replied, “Pretty much.”

After saying this, Xu Zhen felt the moment was adequately stirring and stood up, wobbling back home.

No students stopped her.

As Xu Zhen left, she walked with a spring in her step. She encountered the old man who watched over the academy as she exited and exchanged a few words with him. The old man remained silent, merely listening from inside his room.

Seeing he didn’t respond, Xu Zhen cheerfully left.

Pingliang was getting colder, and hunters were already hanging meat and vegetables by their windows, preparing to dry them for winter consumption. With her salary and rewards from Chang’an, Xu Zhen was now quite well-off and spent money liberally. She bought plenty of dried meat, planning to give it to the little beggar the next day.

That night, after she finished dinner alone, she lay on the table gazing at the stars. After a while, she casually checked the system.

The merit points were still…

Huh, it seemed to have increased by two hundred points?

For a five-digit figure, two hundred points wasn’t much, but compared to the previous days of earning just one point a day, two hundred was a significant sum.

She just didn’t know how she had earned those two hundred points.

Xu Zhen couldn’t recall. She checked the main quest and found that it remained unchanged. She also glanced at the store, which had nothing new. How strange.

Puzzled, Xu Zhen wondered what she might have done to earn those points. Suddenly, she noticed a new button in the lower left corner, shaped like three card sections. This had been there before, but its presence was so subtle that she hadn't paid it any attention. Seeing it again today, she decided to click on it.

Up popped the antagonist card of Li Sanlang, along with two new cards. Upon closer inspection, Xu Zhen discovered that the two cards featured students from the Chang'an Academy. One was Xie Guang, and the other was a student she didn’t recognize, but from the description, it seemed to be the student who played cuju (an ancient Chinese ball game).

Both were hot-blooded and straightforward young men and, in the future, would become key figures in uprisings.

Xu Zhen fell silent. Looking at the cards and their descriptions on the screen, she felt two lines of silent tears in her heart. It turned out that even during her time in Chang'an, she was surrounded by such lurking dangers...

The only consolation was the points gained from turning Li Sanlang into an ally and a chance to draw from the store.

There wasn’t much good in the store at this time. Without much hope, Xu Zhen casually drew and ended up with a white porcelain bottle. The words "Antidote Pill" were inscribed on it.

Antidote Pill?

Xu Zhen stared at it, bewildered, until she realized—wasn't this the very thing she had been longing for? How convenient!
