In the northwest region of Hu, where the Northern Frontier King resides, a few peculiar occurrences have been noted. Unlike the other small states, which always have elders in charge and invite skilled advisors to strategize and plot for the annexation of territories, the Northern Frontier King stands out. She surrounds herself with only four or five fierce warriors and not a single strategist. Her approach to warfare relies on bravery and audacity, yet she is far from reckless, employing a wealth of strategic knowledge.

Originally, Hu lacked sufficient food supplies. Upon her arrival, the Northern Frontier King swiftly resolved this issue, reformed agricultural practices, and introduced new farming techniques and weaponry. These innovations propelled Hu to become one of the seven major powers during the chaotic era. Although the people of Hu initially resented the Northern Frontier King, their sentiments gradually softened as they witnessed the benefits she brought. Soon, children began to sing her praises.

As the turmoil in Hu began to settle into peace, another intriguing aspect of the Northern Frontier King emerged. Despite being a woman, she appeared to have an affinity for beautiful women. Initially, the people of Hu believed she was ascetic and devoid of desires. However, during a national banquet, it was observed that her gaze lingered unusually long on a dancing girl, even at the expense of overlooking her favorite white bread.

The ministers were taken aback and followed her gaze to discover that the Northern Frontier King was captivated by a slender, fair-skinned dancer. This revelation was surprising, given the presence of many alluring Hu maidens and valiant warriors—yet she was drawn to an unassuming dancer. "Truly remarkable," they thought, "even her tastes defy convention."

That very night, the ministers sent the dancer to the Northern Frontier King's quarters, but she soon emerged, trembling and in tears, indicating that nothing had transpired. This left the people of Hu even more perplexed about the true nature of the Northern Frontier King. She was truly enigmatic

Amidst their confusion, a young general speculated, "The Northern Frontier King is setting an example! She doesn't want us to stray down the wrong path." This insight resonated with many, elevating their admiration for her. The tale of her supposed preference for delicate dancers in white quickly spread, leading to an influx of women in white dresses frequenting her residence.

Meanwhile, in Yongzhou, a brown wooden carriage moved slowly through the gates. Inside, Xu Zhen sat, hands on her knees, filled with anticipation and a touch of anxiety. A young beggar sat by the window, tossing an apple. She handed one to Xu Zhen, saying, "This is quite a rarity. It looks like a sand pear but tastes better. I didn't see much of these in Jiangnan. Have you seen them in the north?"

Xu Zhen thought, "The sweetness of these apples is thanks to my scientific farming techniques." The fact that apples were available even in winter indicated the thriving fruit and vegetable industry in Yongzhou. Despite her efforts, she hadn't anticipated that her success would be seized by the princess.

Xu Zhen bit into the apple in silence, startled when the beggar tossed another fruit at her, prompting, "I'm talking to you. Why don't you answer?" Remembering her dependence on the beggar, Xu Zhen forced a smile and replied, "I've lived in the north, but not here."

The beggar cautioned, "You better not lie to me." Xu Zhen nodded, all the while internally plotting her escape. She knew she couldn't flee while in Yongzhou, under the princess's control, and needed to reach the city outskirts for a better chance.

Before Xu Zhen could finish her thoughts, the beggar inquired, "We've passed through three countries, and you haven't attempted to form alliances. Weren't you supposed to help me establish one with Hu? Are we focusing solely on Hu?"
