Serena's POV
It's hard not to romanticize battling when the sky is glowing orange and a crowd of people is erupting at every move.
I got a good seat on the top floor of the mall city, the glass railing right in front of me. The second best seat after Pikachu's position on Ash's shoulder.
Across from Ash is the normal type specialist Wayne. He's an older man in a white lab coat, matching the fur of his first Pokemon.
It's an adorable chinchilla Pokemon with long white fur that curls many ways. I heard Wayne call it Cinccino.
Even well into this battle its fur looks pristine, but that's mostly because Ash is not doing so good.
"Staraptor use Brave Bird!" The trainer yells to his grey and white bird Pokemon.
I love the red tuff of hair on its head, very kalosian for the Sinnoh Pokemon. Unfortunately the Pokemon looks better than its doing.
Its heart eyes are the main reason. An earlier Attract has kept Staraptor from dodging or attacking.
I notice some sparks on Cinccino's fur.
"Uh oh," I mutter.
"Thunderbolt," Wayne calmly commands.
Immediately the static electricity becomes a bolt of lightning that zaps the dazed Staraptor out of the sky. The crowd cheers as Staraptor lays on the clay field.
"Hmph," Wayne grunts. "I expected more of a fight."
I can tell by Ash's expression that he's surprised how it's going so far. But I also know we never give up. His mouth curls into a smirk.
"It's not over til it's over Staraptor!" Ash yells.
Staraptor pushes himself up and glares at Cinccino with his usual sharp eyes. Suddenly they glow blue and Cinccino crumbles.
"Endeavor," I hear someone say as they push their way through to the front row.
She looks around my age, with long brown hair and a nice black and turquoise outfit on.
"What's that?" I turn to her.
"Staraptor brought Cinccino's health down to its level," She explains.
"Brave Bird!" Ash interrupts.
Staraptor manages to get airborne. Not very high but enough to build up speed in a blue flame.
It wasn't much of a high-speed collision but it managed to knock Cinccino out, before succumbing to the recoil damage soon after.
"Wow," I catch my breath. "Ash never fails to amaze."
"Your accent?" The girl picks up.
"Huh?" I question. "I have an accent?"
"It's not much," She says quickly. "You get good at noticing those things when no one visits your region."
"Oh well very observant," I hold out my hand. "I'm Serena, from Kalos."
"So it's not just Ash they let in!" She exclaims, covering her mouth with her hand. "Oh sorry I'm Green."
We shake hands, and I smile. "Yea we're the first in awhile right?"
"Yea," She says, deep in thought it looks like.
A huge explosion captures our attention.
The smoke clears to reveal two very large Pokemon.
