Year 2008, Earth (Australia), Universe L1: Time Machine's Malfunction
The faint hum of the now-silent time machine filled the room as Karan and his companions examined it, trying to understand what had gone wrong. Fresh from a successful journey back to 2008 from the year 2050, the group—comprising Karan; his uncle, the renowned scientist Dr. Khanna (affectionately called Uncle Ya); the advanced female robot Q.T.; the enigmatic reincarnation Zeisha; her loyal toy companion Boo; and her siblings, Rahul and Thea—stood gathered around the machine, staring at its dormant console. They had expected their return to go smoothly, but now the time machine lay completely unresponsive.
Curiosity turned to concern as Karan decided to break the silence.
Karan: "Uncle Ya, what’s wrong with the time machine? Why won’t it respond?"
Uncle Ya scratched his chin, glancing between the machine’s control panel and the diagnostic screens. After a moment, he began pressing a few buttons, his brows furrowed in frustration.
Uncle Ya: "Let me check…"
(A tense pause followed as he tried command after command, but each attempt ended with the same frozen display.)
Uncle Ya: "It’s a glitch! Damn, the machine’s completely stuck. I can’t access the controls." (He sighed, then looked over at their robotic companion.) "Q.T., can you run a system scan? Let’s see what we’re dealing with here."
Q.T.: "On it, sir."
A soft whirring sound filled the room as Q.T. began a full scan, her eyes flickering as data streamed across her internal systems. After a moment, her robotic voice broke the silence.
Q.T.: "System scan complete. It appears there’s… extraterrestrial interference. An unidentified force has caused a major fault, rendering the machine inoperable."
Uncle Ya’s expression shifted from frustration to astonishment.
Uncle Ya: "Extraterrestrial? Are you saying someone—or something—not from this world tampered with our machine?"
Q.T.: "It’s the only conclusion supported by the data, but the nature of the interference is unexpected. We may need to wait and observe for any further activity."
Karan exchanged a worried look with Uncle Ya, processing the gravity of the situation.
Karan: "You’re right, Q.T. Let’s wait and keep monitoring. Hopefully, we’ll have more answers soon."
A Month Later…
Despite their careful observation, the time machine remained unusable, and the source of the interference was still a mystery. Then, one afternoon, as Uncle Ya was working alone in his study, his computer pinged with a new message. The email was from an unknown account, with the subject line: “URGENT: Time Machine Malfunction”. The message sender identified himself as Messenger, claiming to have detailed information on the machine’s breakdown.
The email contained only a few lines, enough to intrigue Uncle Ya:
"I know about the issue with your time machine and the hidden agenda behind it. If you wish to learn more, reply to this email, and I will arrange a meeting."
Intrigued yet cautious, Uncle Ya replied, asking Messenger to reveal the full story. Within minutes, Messenger responded with instructions for a private meeting, scheduled at Uncle Ya’s villa in Strathalbyn.
That evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Uncle Ya, Karan, and their companions gathered at the villa, eagerly awaiting their mysterious visitor. When Messenger arrived, his appearance was strikingly human but marked with subtle oddities—a slight iridescent sheen to his skin, eyes that seemed to hold knowledge beyond human comprehension. He greeted them politely, his voice steady and measured.
Once they were settled, Messenger addressed them, a knowing smile on his face as he noticed their curiosity.
Messenger: "I understand you must have many questions. Allow me to explain. The reality you know—the world around you—is merely one of many layers. This universe, our existence, is connected to a vast network of other realms, each governed by unique laws and principles. Together, these realms form what we call the multiverse."
A silence fell over the room as everyone absorbed Messenger’s words, captivated by the grand scale of his explanation.
Messenger: "The multiverse contains countless parallel universes, some almost identical to yours, others beyond comprehension. And beyond even these lies something more: mystical dimensions layered above the multiverse, bound together by a force we call the Emperor of Reality."
Seeing their wide-eyed expressions, Messenger continued, his tone solemn.
Messenger: "The Emperor is not a mere being—it is a force of consciousness, governing the multiverse by maintaining the delicate balance between realms. It is possible for a human to attain this level of consciousness, to synchronize so completely with the fabric of reality that they become the Emperor. However, such individuals are extraordinarily rare."
Karan leaned forward, intrigued but wary.
Karan: "So what does this have to do with our time machine?"
Messenger: "Everything. The Emperor’s balance is maintained by agents—one of whom is known as Boss. Boss is entrusted with protecting this reality cluster, ensuring that any anomaly or entity threatening equilibrium is neutralized. I am one of his messengers, created for the purpose of conveying his will and offering guidance. But I am not unique. Multiple versions of myself exist, each serving independently across different realities."
Uncle Ya, still skeptical but fascinated, raised a hand.
Uncle Ya: "And what exactly is this ‘anomaly’ we’re dealing with?"
Messenger: "An alien named Gagron. He is a scientist, an ambitious one. In the year 3000, in a universe not far from yours, Gagron encountered a black hole. Rather than perishing, he discovered a way to survive, crossing through to a realm where he gained access to a reality manipulation chamber. This chamber allows him to traverse and interfere with multiple realities."
Messenger’s expression darkened as he spoke of Gagron’s intentions.
Messenger: "Gagron has learned of your time machine and seeks to exploit it to further his ambitions, which, if left unchecked, could lead to chaos across the multiverse. However, he did not go unnoticed. There is a being known as Dahaka, a guardian of the timeline, whose sole purpose is to protect the integrity of time and prevent unauthorized interference. It was Dahaka who disrupted your machine, to prevent Gagron from using it for his plans."
Rahul, Zeisha’s brother, looked puzzled.
Rahul: "So Gagron’s interference triggered this entire malfunction? And Dahaka was the one who stopped it?"
Messenger: "Precisely. Gagron’s ambition poses a risk beyond imagination. To contain this threat, Boss has assembled a team—a team that needs your help. We are reaching out to those across different realities who can contribute to this mission. I am here to ask if you will join us."
Uncle Ya considered Messenger’s proposal carefully, glancing around the room at his companions. Each of them nodded in agreement; they understood the gravity of the situation. After a moment, he turned back to Messenger.
Uncle Ya: "We’ll join your team. Whatever it takes to stop this Gagron, we’re in."
With a nod, Messenger reached into his coat, producing a set of sleek communication devices and handing them to Uncle Ya.
Messenger: "These devices will allow you to remain in contact with me and other members of the team. Keep them close and stay alert. This is only the beginning."
With that, Messenger rose, his figure shimmering subtly in the dim light of the villa, a reminder of the mysterious nature of their new ally.
Messenger: "I will be in touch soon."
And with a slight bow, Messenger turned and left, vanishing into the night. In his wake, a sense of purpose filled the room as Karan, Uncle Ya, and the others realized they were now part of something far greater—a mission that would span dimensions, time, and reality itself.
