As the morning light streamed through the window, Marjorie moved around the room, preparing for the day ahead with Reece. She slipped into a comfortable outfit, feeling the soft fabric against her skin. Once she was dressed, she paused in front of the mirror, her hands grazing over her tiny stomach, a mix of excitement and anticipation swirling within her. Just then, Reece came up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and leaning in to whisper, "I can't believe we're already 7 weeks, gorgeous." Marjorie hummed a response to his words, and she smiled at their reflection, feeling grateful for the journey they were on together.
Once they were fully ready and had eaten breakfast, Marjorie and Reece found themselves in the car, the atmosphere a mix of reluctance and tension. They were on their way to Reece's father's office, a place that held a lot of resentment for him and everyone else. The thought of meeting with Roger made Reece's grip on the steering wheel tighten. Marjorie could sense his unease and offered a reassuring smile, hoping to lighten the mood even just a little as they drove into what felt like a daunting and long day ahead.
They pulled into the car park and sat there for a bit in silence, the tension thick in the air like the calm before a storm. Reece stared ahead, lost in thought, while Marjorie glanced out the window, trying to distract herself from the impending meeting. Suddenly, the peaceful moment was shattered as Autumn sped into the car park, her red Jaguar zipping in with a burst of energy. She parked abruptly next to them, the sound of her tyres screeching slightly as she threw the car into park, instantly bringing a jolt of energy to the stillness.
As they got out of the car to greet her, Reece shook his head in disbelief and muttered, "Does she have a death wish or something?" His voice was laced with a mix of annoyance and amusement as he watched Autumn hop out of her car with her usual attitude, completely unfazed by her chaotic arrival. Marjorie couldn't help but chuckle at his reaction. Autumn slammed the door of her car and greeted her brother dryly, "Big brother." She then turned to Marjorie, giving a slight nod, "Marjorie." Just as they exchanged glances, Mia pulled into the car park in her sleek black Mustang, coming to a halt before hopping out to join the others. With a playful grin, she greeted Reece with a tease, "Reecey," and then turned to Marjorie, saying, "Marjorie."
The four of them stood in the car park, exchanging complaints about the upcoming meeting. "I can't believe we have to sit through all of that," Marjorie said, while Autumn added, "It's going to be the longest hour of my life." Just then, Reece and Mia noticed Carly slyly walking out of Roger's building, her fingers franticly typing away on her phone. They shared confused glances, both raising their eyebrows in suspicion. "What's she up to?" Mia whispered, her curiosity piqued. Reece shrugged, but the look on his face said he was just as intrigued.
As they watched Carly move closer to the exit of the car park, the tension in the air shifted. Mia leaned in a bit, squinting her eyes. "Maybe she's got some secret plan or something," she replied, a smirk creeping onto her face. Autumn and Marjorie exchanged glances, clearly picking up on the vibe. "Should we go over and ask her?" Marjorie suggested, but the hesitation in her voice showed she wasn't too keen on it. Reece and Mia shrugged, still keeping their eyes on Carly, who seemed completely absorbed in whatever was on her screen obviously hiding something.
Autumn interrupted their plans with a sigh, saying, "I hate to ruin your fun, but my father does not shine kindly on latecomers." Her tone was a mix of annoyance and urgency, reminding them that they needed to get moving. The others exchanged quick glances, realizing that they couldn't linger much longer if they wanted to avoid the sibling's father's wrath.
The four of them wandered into the building, Reece's hand in Marjorie's for support. The space was fresh and modern, with marble everywhere, and the blindingly white light gave everything a new and expensive look. They approached the harsh-looking receptionist, who was busy with her computer that she was hidden behind, she asked without looking up, "Can I help you?"Mia stepped forward, her tone playful, "I don't know, can you?" Her raspy, sly voice cut through the sterile atmosphere. The receptionist rolled her eyes, still not making eye contact, and spat back sharply, "Either give me a reason or leave."
