After Liminne and Elphis left the room, the atmosphere shifted, allowing a sense of quiet seriousness to settle between Damian and Simera. He stepped closer, his expression turning solemn as he locked eyes with her.
"Simera," he began, his voice steady yet filled with emotion, "next time, don't do this. This was the last thing I ever wanted you to do."
The weight of his words hung in the air, making Simera's teasing smile fade as she took in the sincerity of his concern. "I had to," she replied softly, her tone shifting from playful to earnest. "You were in danger, and I couldn't just stand by and watch."
Damian shook his head, frustration mingling with relief. "You think I wanted to see you get hurt? That's not how this works! You're supposed to be safe. You should have let me handle it."
"But I couldn't! You're not the only one who cares," she insisted, her voice firm. "You mean a lot to me, Damian. I wasn't going to let anything happen to you, not when I could do something about it."
Her determination resonated with him, but he couldn't shake the unease that gripped his heart. "I know you care," he said, his tone softening. "But you also have to understand that putting yourself in harm's way doesn't solve anything. It just makes things more complicated."
Simera's gaze softened, and for a moment, the tension between them dissipated. "I just wanted to protect you," she said quietly, her eyes searching his for understanding.
"I get that," he replied, taking a step closer and reaching out to take her hand gently. "But promise me you'll think twice next time. I can't lose you. Not like that."
Simera felt a rush of warmth at his words, the gravity of the moment grounding them both. "I promise," she said earnestly, squeezing his hand. "But you have to promise me something in return."
"What's that?" he asked, tilting his head slightly.
"Promise me you'll let me stand by your side, no matter what. We're stronger together," she replied, her gaze unwavering.
Damian nodded, a faint smile breaking through the seriousness. "Deal. Just... let's keep each other out of trouble, okay?"
Simera laughed softly, the tension melting away once more. "No promises," she teased, but there was a twinkle in her eye that made it clear she meant every word.
"Sweek... no... Simera," Damian began, his voice low but steady, as he faced her with an intensity that made her heart race. "You are annoying, stubborn, and irritating—those were my first thoughts about you. But beneath all that, I started to see something else: a charm, a tempting allure, and a cuteness that I just couldn't ignore."
He paused, his expression shifting as he wrestled with his emotions. "You're so infuriating that I often want to shut you up—though not in that way," he added, a hint of a smile tugging at his lips. "I mean something different. Something more passionate."
Simera stood there, a teasing glint in her eyes as she processed his words. She had expected him to be annoyed or dismissive, but instead, he was laying bare his thoughts, revealing a vulnerability she hadn't anticipated.
"You always manage to get under my skin," he continued, his voice growing softer, "but that's what makes you so attractive to me. Your stubbornness, your tenacity—they draw me in like a magnet, even when I wish they wouldn't."
Simera's smirk deepened as she leaned slightly closer, her curiosity piqued. "Is that all?" she challenged, her tone playful yet laced with sincerity, though her heart fluttered at the confession.
"No, not at all. It's not even close to what I want to say," Damian continued, his voice steady but full of emotion. "I like your haircut. I like your voice, the way it carries through a room like it owns the space. I like your lips—every time you smile, I can't help but get lost in them. I like your eyes, those deep pools that drown me like there's no tomorrow. I like your personality, the way you light up every situation with your laughter. I even like when you annoy me, when you poke and prod just to get a rise out of me.
