Arden's POV -
With his hair neatly trimmed, Arden toddled after his siblings with the servants trailing behind them. Noticing his difficulty keeping up, Arien and Arjen had each extended a hand toward him, allowing him to walk in the center as they slouched and matched his pace.
Then, they stopped. In front of them stood the emperor and an unfamiliar man, with the man begging and the emperor mostly unfazed but gradually becoming more frustrated.
'There is a man next to the emperor...who is he?'
Arden watched the interaction intently, his eyebrows slightly raised in interest.
"I don't need to listen to this anymore."
"B-but, your majesty..."
The emperor sighed, interrupting the fruitless begs.
"Stop. Don't make me repeat myself, Count Kulon."
'Count Kulon? Who is he?'
The name was completely unfamiliar to the young boy, which was to be expected because he wasn't close to the emperor and was never involved in any political affairs. However, the name also left an ominous feeling, as if the man could not be trusted.
He continued watching. It was too early to tell from this part of the conversation alone.
"I-I shall take my leave..."
Count Kulon then turned around, retreating after an unsuccessful attempt at moving the emperor. Before he could leave, however, he noticed the triplets standing and watching.
"...Greetings, your imperial highnesses."
He bowed, yet it seemed more like it was out of obligation than genuine respect.
'How intimidating...why does it seem like he's looking down on us?'
He trembled, holding tightly onto the hands of his siblings as they, too, clenched their hands around his.
