Others and abilities

"So you can touch birds. Interesting." Sasappis said, slowly trunking around the library as we stood inside.

"So that's what my ability is? Touching birds?" I mumbled as I watched my feet shuffle around the carpeted floor.

"Well, it could be animals, or small things you can hold and touch. Maybe you could be like Trevor and touch things in the living world. Y'know. Remotes, vases, tablets, so on..." he said, running his hand along the wall as it slightly went through.

"Maybe." I said before taking a seat in one of the chairs there. "Or maybe it's just birds. Though it would be nice to touch small things. I could probably play piano then." I said leaning forward and resting my elbows  onto my legs.

"You play piano?" Sasappis asked, looking in my direction. I nodded. "I do, though I haven't in a while." I said, streaching my arms a bit before leaning back into the chair.

"So," Sasappis started. "What was your life before you died? What'd you do?" He asked, sitting down on the floor and looking up at me as if I've became the most interesting thing in the room.

"Well, I... I did a lot of photography. Normally I'd do mountains, or animals. Rare occasions I'd be asked to do things like weddings or people." I said, clasping my hands together and leaning on my elbows.

"Never quite pinned you to be a photographer." Sasappis said as he rested his head on his hand.

I shrugged slightly and leaned back into my chair letting out a small sigh. "I also had a few friends before..." I mumbled as I held right where my liver was shot. Feeling the hole in my side before snapping out of it.

"So, what's your ability?" I asked, looking back over at him. "Oh, I can manipulate dreams of livings. Make them be crazy things and whatnot, it's fun to watch Jay have a nightmare every now and then." He said with a smirk.

"That sounds... fun." I mumbled before standing up and walking around aimlessly, my eyes trailing from thing to thing before landing back on Sasappis.

"So, Trevor. The ghost without any pants. Can you explain to me why he doesn't have any?" I walked over to Sasappis with my hands in my pockets as I asked the question.

"Oh, it was just a whole thing of letting someone keep their dignity for a challenge." He said bluntly, before crossing his arms over his chest. "Well, I suppose I'll be off now. Jay should be cooking and I'd like to smell it." He said before beginning to walk off.

I watched him leave, just standing in silence once more. It always seemed to come to this with me. I'd talk for a while, and then people would leave, and I'd be alone once more.

Silence.

It was deafening, I didn't mind it a lot though. I began to walk back to the bookshelves. "Fantasy..." I mumbled as I skimmed through the shelves and continued to look through book spines. Reading all of them to pass time, and kill boredom.

I'd sit there, for the next few hours and just read them all. Working my way from the fantasy section, to the action. It was well organized- alphabetically, by title and author.

Sam walked in  and looked at me with a soft smile. "Hey, Nor right?" I nodded as I stood up off the ground.

"Lights are out in a hour, some of the others are watching TV and I wanted to know how you're doing... adjusting." She said, gesturing with her hands occasionally.

"I suppose I'm doing fine." I said before putting my hands into my pockets.

She nodded and continued to smile. "Great, great... if you need anything just call for me." She twirled a lock of hair around one finger. "Anyways, I've got to go for now, but enjoy yourself." She said before walking out and saying a goodbye.

I mumbled one back and then sat down on the ground. Holding my head in my hands and just thinking. I didn't think about my life often, though when I did it never really went well.

My brain started to trail off, going from: 'What will my living friends do now? How would they react. I don't have parents to worry about, nor do I have to worry about relatives...'

And then it was paused as I could hear the tv playing in the background. I slowly got up from the ground and shoved my hands into my sweater pockets before shuffling over to the others.

Hetty was sitting down on a separate chair from everybody else, Isaac was sitting in the middle of the couch, Thorfinn was on his left, and Trevor had his legs crossed, sitting to Isaac's right.

A few of them, like Hetty and Thorfinn, looked up as I walked in before looking back down at the TV. I could imagine they'd like something like that, a Viking, Victorian, and 1750's person would be attached to something of the sort.

I stood behind the couch and leaned on it, inbetween Isaac and Thorfinn's head. "Whatcha guys watching?" I asked looking down at them and then back at the TV.

"A quite gruesome yet wonderful show about a boy who's parents-" Isaac started before Trevor blurted. "Harry Potter." He muttered simply.

"I thought it might be something like that." I said before sitting down on the ground beside the couch and resting my head on the arm of it.

And so for about the rest of the night, that's all I did. Watch tv, before heading back to the library, and falling asleep.
