It had been around a week, Sam and Jay called the police letting them know about my body and everything else about that incident.
They took my body, I got a proper funeral in a far away place, my killer went to jail, and my soul stayed put in the Woodstone manner.
Thor taught me about cod... which was interesting to say the least, I got to learn about the basement ghosts, Pete talked to me about several of his scout things — fishing, training, archery and so on — I was quite fond of Flower and her whimsical personality.
Sasappis occasionally came to me for a small talk, to watch TV, or just not do anything but sit together in silence. Betty would constantly bug me with things like my posture, if I made a joke she didn't like, cocaine...
I learned about Isaac a bit more, but didn't interact with him at all. Social anxiety got to me really hard when I was near him, constantly making me fumble with words and just freeze up near him.
Meanwhile I tried to avoid others like Trevor, though I didn't mind his jokes, I just wasn't a fan of his appearance.
There was Alberta though. She was amazing. She'd love to sing whenever she could, and though some of the other ghosts didn't want to hear her- I always did. Her voice was angelic, and I loved her personality.
We probably hung around each other the most, and then once I was alone after talking with her I'd always see Pete.
He'd sort of get overprotective over what we were talking about, and that sort of gave away how he likes her. I didn't mind though, Alberta's not my type. Not many are, because I don't meet many.
Even just today, I was alone in the library, reading the book spines. I'd say the most interesting one was called "Gone" it was one simple word, yet it sparked my curiosity.
Though, be it as I am a ghost, chances are I'll never read it.
Later that day I got invited to watch TV by Thorfinn. He's not that good with his words, and generally socializing but he gets the job done.
Whether it be doing a simple task. Or cutting off Dane's heads.
It's an odd thing he talk about, quite gruesome, though honestly I don't mind it. The way he'll talk about it is sort of captivating to me in a way. It makes me want to know more, though all the others seem to find it too gruesome.
I sat down silently on the floor beside the couch and waited for Trevor to press the play button. "What're we watching?" I asked quietly.
"It's a thrilling talked about a young monk boy-" Isaac started.
"Avatar the last airbender... the animated one..." Sasappis said bluntly.
"You guys are no fun." Isaac muttered under his breath. I smirked slightly as I just listened to them talk, they all acted like siblings in a way.
"I've seen this show before." I said softly as I continued to sit with the others. "It's pretty good. What episode are you all on?" I asked as the others watched.
"Season two, episode five." Trevor said, resting his head on his fist, with his elbow resting on the arm of the couch.
I gave a small nod. After a while it got dark, the others went to their respective rooms, I went to the library after lights out.
Silence. It was beautiful and nice to have around, but at the same time... scary. You didn't know what could be in silence, what might happen.
I laid down on the couch and just stared at the roof. Why me? I thought. Out of all the people that have died on this property, why was I chosen?
How long would I be here? Do I need sleep? Are there other ghosts I don't know about here? And the list just went on. I laid there for around an hour, almost stuck in a trance before- Hoot.
There was an owl outside. Right by my window I was laying under. "Hello there..." I said softly as I looked up at the owl, which in return only hooted again at me.
After a few seconds it just flew off. I didn't think much of it and closed my eyes, god hoping tomorrow would be better than yesterday.
The next morning came, sun came in shafts of light through the window as I slowly opened my eyes. A soft clicking of Sam on her computer in the background.
"Why're you up so early?" I mumbled as I looked back at her. "I just... thought I'd get some work done." She said slowly, scrolling through her computer before the sound of soft kitten meows came from it. And then she quickly clicked off.
"And that involves kitten videos?" I asked with a small tired smirk. "Cut me some slack, Nor. I've got to get a break some time." She said giving a small smile.
"Ah yes, with your busy schedule of the mail on Wednesday, and someone who booked a room for yester-month?" I retorted. "Yeah, yeah..." She replied simply.
There was a soft stillness that filled the room. I continued to lay on the couch as she worked.
"I used to have a friend who claimed she could see ghosts." I said breaking the silence. "She was kind, funny, smart, not my type." I said with a chuckle.
"Once I was driving us around and she screamed at me to stop the breaks, because she thought I ran into an elderly couple whom apparently were ghosts."
"That's something I accidentally did with Jay a few days after I gained my ability." Sam said with a small chuckle. "Though, probably just a coincidence right?" I said looking back at her.
"Right." She replied softly.
"Yeah, I don't think I've had friends with the name of 'Sam' before." I mumbled to myself, staring back up at the room.
Right?
. . .
Right.
