"And when you have a sister who can see the future. You wouldn't believe how handy it is for stock market investments."
"Unbelievable." I started walking to the driver's side of my truck. "How's Bella taking this?"
"Not sure she's been told yet. Actually, I'm surprised you're reacting better than I thought you would."
"Only because being with your family is probably the second-safest option for Bella with Victoria running around. Which," I noted, getting in the truck and holding the door open, "I'm still pissed at you for lying to me about."
"Wouldn't have it any other way."
I shut the car door, but right as I did so, Edward said something. I rolled down my window and stuck my head out. "What?"
"I said, you wouldn't mind giving me a ride home, would you? If I drive the Volvo with it smelling like this I might throw up."
"Good. And to answer your question, no. Now move before I run you over."
"Who are you, Tyler Crowley?"
"Making jokes now, are we?"
"Come on. I'm funny."
"Not even a little bit." I stepped on the gas. Edward used his super speed to move out of the way and as I pulled out onto the main road, I spotted him giving me the bird in the rearview mirror. I grinned as the truck picked up speed.

"Y/n?" Dad called when I opened the front door.
"Hey, Dad."
I found him in the living room, in front of the TV.
"You're home late," he said.
Might as well tell him everything — he'd hear it from Billy soon enough. Besides, it would make him happy. "I was at La Push."
"Oh! How's Jacob?"
"Good," I said. "Glad he'll finally talk to me." I looked up towards the staircase. "Is Bella home?"
"Yeah, upstairs I think," he said. "Edward dropped her off right after school, then left again. I guess he's borrowing the truck."
Dad's voice held quite a bit of disdain when he said Edward's name, and it made me love him all that much more. "Oh, I brought it back. We switched cars for the afternoon."
"Oh." Dad blinked, apparently quite surprised. "Uh...how come?"
I shrugged. "Wanted to try driving the Volvo."
"Well...okay."
"I tried to run him over for you," I offered.
Dad chuckled. "I hope you're joking."
"No you don't."
Dad laughed again, but didn't contradict me. I grinned and shook my head, then headed up the stairs.

Edward was leaving Friday night with Jasper, Emmett, and Carlisle to hit some reserve in Northern California with a mountain lion problem, apparently.
Bella had been told about the slumber party by now. And, as predicted, wasn't happy. I was sure she and Edward had had their own private conversations about the whole werewolf issue, and I knew that Alice didn't like me visiting either, but I would be damned if they tried anything more than this little sleepover.
But when I got off work Thursday, I found Alice in our driveway by the silver Volvo. Bella was loading two duffel bags into the back.
I frowned. "Alice? I thought the sleepover was supposed to be on Friday."
