The headlines were everywhere.
"SERVAL's CEO Reverts to Islam: Leonard Damarias Now Known as Omar Khan"
"SERVAL's CEO Announces Surprise Engagement"
The news had spread like wildfire, making waves not only in their country but around the world. Reporters speculated, business analysts weighed in, and online threads buzzed with opinions and congratulations. Omar's life had changed in ways he could have never imagined, and all of it was tied back to Maria—the woman who had transformed his world.
The engagement announcement came with another surprise. Alongside it, SERVAL had unveiled the prototype for their top-secret design project, a sleek new luxury vehicle that Maria and Omar had conceptualized years before. The prototype was described as "a celebration of elegance, precision, and timeless values," a gift from Omar to Maria, honouring her work and dedication.
Back in Maria's family home, the excitement was palpable. Relatives from India and across the world had flown in, filling every spare room of every house, each one eager to be a part of the celebration. The house was alive with laughter, chatter, and the scents of freshly cooked food. Maria could hardly go a moment without being pulled into another conversation, receiving hugs, or having henna designs planned for her upcoming wedding festivities.
Amid the joyful chaos, Maria herself radiated happiness. The months leading up to this had been a whirlwind, but for the first time in her life, she felt a deep, lasting sense of fulfillment. Omar had become everything she had once dreamed of—a man of faith, a man who cherished her values and understood the importance of family. She looked forward to a future she had once only imagined, and she knew the journey had been worth every moment of patience and pain. He ticked all the boxes, even the bonus one.
That evening, as laughter echoed through the rooms and children ran around, Maria heard a soft knock on the side door of the house. She made her way over quietly, careful not to attract attention, and when she opened it, her heart leapt.
It was Omar.
"Thought I'd try to sneak in before anyone noticed," he whispered, his eyes twinkling with mischief.
"You've made headlines everywhere, and yet you're here, sneaking in like this?" she teased, a smile spreading across her face.
He shrugged with a smirk. "I'd rather be here than anywhere else. Besides, I wanted a moment with you before the next wave of family arrives."
But their attempt at a quiet reunion was foiled almost instantly. A group of Maria's cousins, who had been chatting nearby, noticed Omar's arrival, and in a matter of seconds, they'd surrounded him, their faces lit up with excitement and curiosity.
"Is this the famous Omar Khan?" one of the cousins asked, giving him a playful nudge.
"You can't just sneak in like that!" another cousin laughed, pulling him into the living room. "We have questions!"
Omar, amused and slightly embarrassed, glanced over at Maria, who only grinned back, unable to contain her laughter.
Soon, Omar found himself sitting with a group of Maria's cousins and sisters, each one eager to know more about the man who had captured her heart. They peppered him with questions—some serious, others lighthearted.
"So, how does it feel to be the world's most famous CEO-turned-Muslim?" one cousin asked, grinning.
Omar chuckled, taking it in stride. "Unexpected," he admitted. "But I'd do it all over again if it meant ending up here, with Maria and all of you."
The answer earned him a round of approving nods and smiles, and Maria felt her heart swell with happiness. This was the Omar she'd always hoped to see—a man who had embraced her world, who spoke from the heart, and who connected with her family.
"What was it about Maria?" an older cousin asked, her eyes warm. "What made you see her as the one?"
Omar glanced at Maria, his expression softening. "Maria taught me more about integrity, strength, and kindness than I could have ever learned on my own," he said. "She made me want to be better. It wasn't just her faith—it was her entire being, her honesty, her courage to stand her ground. I knew I couldn't let her go. Oh, and don't get me started on her boundaries, they're what led me here".
As the laughter and questions continued, one of Maria's male cousins, a bit bolder than the others, leaned forward with a grin.
"So, Omar," he began, raising an eyebrow. "Why the name Omar Khan? I mean, of all the surnames, you chose Khan, just like Maria's. Coincidence, or was there something more to it?"
Maria's cheeks flushed instantly as she exchanged a quick, embarrassed glance with Omar, who chuckled, clearly amused by the question.
"Oh, that..." Omar started, a mischievous smirk tugging at his lips. "Well, there was a time when I was a bit... head over heels for her. So, I may have faked a name at her clinic just so she'd have to see me." The room filled with laughter, Maria's cousins giggling and nudging each other.
Omar's eyes softened, his gaze shifting to Maria as he continued, his voice sincere yet playful. "But I chose Khan because I wanted her to be mine forever." He gave her a warm, lingering look, and Maria's face turned an even deeper shade of red, much to the delight of her cousins.
The room erupted in laughter, teasing comments and giggles all around. And in that moment, Maria felt both embarrassed and incredibly happy, realising that this man, who had once been a chapter she thought was closed, had truly become the person she had always hoped for.
A warm silence settled over the group, and Maria felt a tear prick at the corner of her eye, overwhelmed by his words. She'd always dreamed of finding someone who saw her for who she truly was, and now, she had.
As the evening continued, the family shared stories, laughter filling every corner of the house. Omar felt at ease, welcomed fully into Maria's world, surrounded by people who valued him not for his title, but for the man he had become. And for the first time in his life, he felt that he belonged.
Hours later, as he prepared to leave, Omar caught Maria's hand, leaning close enough that only she could hear.
"Next time, I won't need to sneak in," he murmured, a playful glint in his eye. "I'll just walk in as your husband."
Maria laughed softly, her heart full. "I look forward to it, Leo."
"It's actually Omar now", he said with a smile. "But you can always call me Leo".
With a final farewell to her family, Omar left, and Maria watched him go, knowing that this was just the beginning of a lifetime filled with love, respect, and partnership. Every dream she'd once held close was now coming true, and as she looked around at her bustling, joyful home, she knew she was ready for whatever lay ahead.
