My heart pounded heavily. She was on her knees, head shaking continuously, hands clamped over her ears.

The sight of her in this state tore at me, despite the knowledge that I was the one causing her this pain.

I dashed through the rain, kneeling down in front of her.

"Ika," I whispered, but she kept her gaze averted, her screams piercing the storm.

I reached out, placing my hands gently on her shoulders, but she yanked away, her head shaking violently, eyes tightly shut, and her breath shallow.

I tried once more, only for her to scream, "Leave me, no-no, don't touch me."

"Please don't abandon me. Mumma, take me. Please."

"Bhai, where are you?"

Her voice echoed, louder with each plea.

Who was she calling for? Had someone hurt her?

My chest tightened at the thought. She'd exhaust herself in this rain, and it would only make her more ill.

I held her arm firmly, pulling her into my embrace.

She struggled, her fists pummeling my chest as she gasped for air.

"Ika, shh, calm down," I murmured, running my hand over her head as she trembled against me, still struggling.

I tightened my grip, only for her nails to dig into my palm.

"Leave me. Leave me."

Her scream was raw, as she scratched my palm with one hand, her other hand clawing at my neck.

"Please, calm down, Ika. Just breathe. I'm Abhijeet."

Hearing my name, she paused, her scratching stopped, and she leaned her head against my shoulder, wrapping her arms around my neck.

I lifted her and started back inside, her breaths still erratic.

Worry gnawed at me.

When we reached the room, mom and Abhinav watched her with a look of deep sympathy.

Once inside, she continued mumbling against my neck, her grip still iron-strong.

I tried to lay her on the bed, but she clung to me, shaking her head.

"Ika, everything is alright. Calm down," I whispered, pressing a gentle kiss to the back of her head.

"They're coming. They'll take everything from me."
