It's been a week, I've waited for a week, feels like forever though. Honestly I've barely been able to think of anything besides what we'll discover! That last bit has resulted in 3GS constantly reminding me to not leave the stove on, we've had WAY to may almost-fires because of me to be honest- but I'm excited so who really cares? Not me that's who! 3GS and I decided to head out to the ruins at around midnight, what we're doing is technically on the weird borders of legal and illegal so it would be best if we just, didn't get caught.
And so we left with our bags of snacks and supplies! 3GS can absolutely smell the excitement off of me as we walk to the abandoned "home" with the shimmering stars overlooking our soon to be odyssey.
"Sooo, 4, you don't look happy at all, now do you?"
"Oh shush, I have to make up for both of us! You look like we're walking into hell."
"We kinda are though-"
"Shit, right... we're walking into a very watered down hell. It won't burn us, I mean look at it-" I point to the piece of rubble in the distance, you wouldn't be able to tell it was once an incredibly successful and powerful company. "It stopped being powered the second it fell out of the sky, the chance of the lights being powered is close to none, let alone any security."
"Okay, okay, you're right, just... a lot of bad memories are in there. For both of us... It still scares me, deep down."
"That's- That's fair I suppose, but whatever is in there, we can face it right?"
"Yeah, right...we can take this, that's why we got weapons, right?"
"Heh, what else would they be for?"
We continue to walk, I eventually notice 3GS has a bit more pep in his step now, we both smile as the autumn leaves crunch softly and satisfactorily under our shoes, the trees sway in our presence, like they understand what we're doing is important in a way. The air is crisp, with this area now, presumably, no longer polluted with smog from a powerful building, it seems like nature has won, with it overtaking its abuser...
We approach Meeple, this time, on our own freewill. I root around in my own bag, between my snacks I pull out a pickaxe, and with a loud shattering noise, I break through the glass door.
"Shall we brother?" I say being much more dramatic than is probably warranted.
"I think we shall, oh dear brother of mine." 3GS replies with as much flare as one person possibly could. God my brother is so dorky- we step into the rotten headquarters, determined to fix our eyesight, and money situation, hopefully forever.
Meeple Headquarters is now less technological and more... overgrown. Pieces of metal have rusted, foliage is everywhere in this building, vines and moss covering it from head to toe, it's almost impressive how fast this place has become similar to its own little ecosystem. All these different types of bugs have started living here, god Cobs would be so pissed- But honestly it is utterly beautiful! Little butterflies and ladybugs, minding their own business, everything is at peace! You wouldn't be able to tell what downright disgusting things had happened here years ago. 3GS catches me in my marveling.
"We can't stare all day. We can come back and stare better with better screens after we are done. Sadly, we're gonna have to take the stairs, the elevator is definitely broken and dangerous at this point."
"Ugh, stairs... whatever, it's gonna be worth it to see straight and be rich! Stairs are nothing to that!"
"That is true. Come on brother, we got places to go, room to search, and memories to avoid like the plague."
3GS leads the way to the, quite quiet and dark, stairwell, thank god for his flashlight or I would've tripped and died the second we stepped in here. Were gonna be walking for what can only be assumed as a boringly long time, so I obviously have to start talking about something dumb with my bro to pass the time.
"Okay, so we need to pass time here-"
"Obviously."
"-so I propose a question."
"Hit me with it."
"...Is a hotdog a sandwich?"
"Bro you bring this up EVERY TIME WE HAVE DOWNTIME! What's your obsession with food centred arguments-" I open my mouth to reply but 3GS cuts me off "And don't say because you're a "fat slob" we all know that doesn't count!"
"..."
"You didn't answer the question though-"
"A hotdog is a sandwich, I'm sorry it has to be said."
"What?! No! If you asked someone to make you a sandwich, and they gave you a hotdog, wouldn't you be pissed?"
"I'd be honoured! That's a major upgrade from a sandwich! It's literally better than what I asked for!"
"...okay I was expecting you to say "no" and then that would back up me in my argument but now I look dumb-" I say with my cocky demeanour fading for a moment.
"I fear the answer, but what do you think a hotdog is?" He says as we both continue to move down the stairs, we might be a quarter of the way at this point, if I'm being generous.
"I think it's its own thing! Not a taco, or a burrito, or a sandwich, it is a hotdog, that is my final answer. You cannot convince me otherwise."
"Is this seriously how we pass the time-?"
"Do you have another idea? Because I'm open to hearing it."
3GS just keeps walking, not acknowledging it, he clearly doesn't have any other ideas, or if he does they are somehow worse than mine, even though right now that seems impossible.
"HAH! Exactly, that my brother, is a checkmate!"
We continue to walk down the shadowy stairwell in silence, the thick stench of decaying vegetation fills the air. Vines and weeds crawl their way up the crumbling concrete walls, shadow hiding in cracks because of the light 3GS is shining from his front camera. We walk for about ten minutes more until the stairway stops, and we're in the Main room of Meeple.
A weird longing feeling comes over me, and glancing at 3GS he feels it as well. An almost comforting numb pain radiates from the walls, desk and scattered papers. We both stop, to watch, what others would say looks like nothing at all, but to both of us countless memories, good and bad, are playing in our heads. It feels so wrong to be here, but so... RIGHT. Like, although it stings, we have to stop the pain here. Maybe that's another reason my subconscious wanted to go here... Or something, I'm not a psychiatrist. 3GS whispers something to me under his breath.
"It really is a watered down hell... still hot enough to hurt, but not enough to burn us..."
"Look, we don't have to stay, if you want us to go back-"
"No. No I'll be fine, because we're doing this together. Right?"
"Yeah, of course! Sibling's stick by each others sides, and I ain't going anywhere whether you like it or not!"
"Pfft- good to know, good to know..."
I begin to eye the first door, it's broken but still remains on the hinges, still closed shut. I look over at 3GS, who nods his head silently telling me to open it, which I walk over to do.
*Creak*
The door opens, we both step in, wondering what we will find...
