"Mommy, why did you name me Season?" asked the little girl in her floral dress, playing with her toys under the tree in the backyard.

Her mother giggled softly beside her. "Look around you, Season. At the grass, the trees, and the flowers. In just a few months they will wither away, and in its place a serene wasteland will appear, like a spell. And though the pretty colours of the season have been painted over in a frosty white, you'll know that in a few months they'll come back again fuller than ever, and that will stay true for a long time.
It's wonderful how the grace of spring will never leave forever. I named you Season because I love the beauty that the seasons bring."

"But I wish spring and summer could stay forever! I hate it when winter comes because I can't play outside with my friends anymore," pouted Season.

Her mother thought for a moment. "Well, think of it like this. If it weren't for the changing of the seasons, how would you be able to love spring and summer as much as you do now? Since they only visit for a short while, you appreciate them a little more when they do come to stay.
There's a magic in the seasons, and I named you after them because like the spring and summer, you'll be able to overcome those harsh winters. And in the end, you'll blossom into something beautiful each time. I love you, Season."

"I love you too Mommy" echoed Season, as they embraced each other in a comforting hug.

"Okay Season, I've got to run a couple errands. I'll be back in a few. Do you want anything from the store?"

"Some Jolly Ranchers would be nice!"

Her mom grinned lovingly. "Of course," she sighed while rolling her eyes. "Season, remember not to leave the house without Uncle Kevin's permission alright?"

"Yeah, I won't," Season replied joyfully. "But only if you bring the biggest bag!"

"Will do," her mom replied before getting up to leave.

That was the last time she'd ever seen her mom. She was only 5-years-old at the time. What would've been a normal day spending time with her mom turned into the most fateful. She still remembered every detail, from her uncle receiving the news over the phone and the sight of him rushing out the door as her aunt held her tightly.
