We last read Chapter 47, in which the redeemed werewolf anti-heroine Carla Rosenblood a.k.a. Nightclaw brings her mate and one true love Jet to the Death Riders' Den in order to get him acquainted with both the new surroundings and her three main lieutenants; Eviscerator, Goretooth, and Gray Maw. After introducing them to Jet—and vice versa—she slinks away momentarily, leaving the other four werewolves to mingle.
Jet inquires as to Gray Maw's partial blindness, to which he replies that it was caused by hunters. When Jet alludes to him and Nightclaw having taken down a rather notorious cell of hunters led by Dwayne Vargas in the past, the lieutenant Eviscerator notes that they already know, due to having been part of the Order in the past prior to Nightclaw's official return to Romania. He goes on to say that the Riders loved Nightclaw so much that they ultimately respected her wishes, idling in the shadows and biding their time while she was away serving the Paragons and going on other adventures with those close to her. Then, when Jet questions the lieutenants as to the use of the phrase "deliver us" when it comes to them viewing Nightclaw as their one true alpha, Nightclaw herself coolly cuts in, stating that she'll be seen for the leader she is and that everyone needs to prepare themselves. Then, after rallying the Death Riders to her side, the outer walls of the cavern light up, revealing thousands of frenzied werewolf loyalists all already rooting for her.
As Jet, Eviscerator, Goretooth, Gray Maw, and the rest of the Death Riders look on, Nightclaw begins her speech by apologizing for her brash actions and ambitions back when she first met the pack. She then states that she should've been content to build up what she already had rather than taking more.....and to that end, she resolves to train the Death Riders to become just as much of a formidable force of vigilante werewolves as the Order of Blood is, ending her rally by exclaiming that they will no longer be mindless killing machines, instead bringing peace to the country of Romania together. The cheers of the Death Riders reverberate throughout the cavernous system, and the chapter ended with her jumping down from her perch to meet her mate Jet before leading him off to a private side chamber to enjoy each other's company in celebration of their victory.....away from all of the regular hustle and bustle of her lieutenants and any of her other werewolf loyalists.
This time, the vampires Lily Ladair and Theo Ladair celebrate the mission's victory in their own rather risqué way, before making thorough plans to commemorate the next phase of their marriage......
-POV: Lily Ladair-
-Ladair Castle, Vermillion Enclave, Transylvania-
It's about a couple of hours before the official crack of dawn at this point.....and for reference, I've just helped quite a few friends of mine to defend an entire encampment of werewolves and redeem one of the Paragons themselves just earlier this same night! I know......how wondrous are my husband and I?
After we cleared out from the Order encampment, my newly married love Theo Ladair and I returned back to the Vermillion Enclave. You know.....that formerly secluded kingdom of vampires nestled in the woods of Transylvania? Yeah. Anyway, my dear Theo is currently chilling at the side of his bed in his room, grasping his electric guitar and tirelessly trying to come up with the correct chords for his latest musical composition. No doubt the rest of the Ladair royal family is going to be ecstatic about it whenever it gets done, but for the time being.....
.....I have some more risqué plans in mind.
"Wait, was that chord supposed to be an A.....major or minor......?" Theo mutters restlessly from the side of his mattress. "Or.....or was it an A7 instead, and I'm already going about this all wrong? Ugh! This is bogus!"
