over the next few weeks, the dark-haired boy found his focus narrowing to a single point: the quiet figure by the window.

jungkook didn't understand the pull, the almost magnetic force that tethered his thoughts to the smaller boy. every lecture, his gaze sought him out, lingering on the way sunlight slanted over his hair or how his delicate hand dragged lazily across the pages of his notebook.

he found out his name was taehyung.

kim taehyung.

the word felt foreign in jungkook's mouth, like a whispered incantation he couldn't quite get right.

the nightmares didn't stop.

they came back with the same suffocating clarity. shadows swallowing him whole, pale hands reaching for him, and that face, porcelain and unreadable, staring at him in a way that made his chest twist painfully.

but now, every time he saw the smaller boy, his heart thundered up his throat, threatening to choke him.

his body betrayed him, heat pooling low in his stomach. he couldn't stop staring, couldn't stop absorbing every little detail. the faint curve of taehyung's lips when he chewed his pencil, the absent way his fingers twisted strands of his hair.

taehyung never looked at him. not once.

jungkook learned more about him through snatches of overheard conversation. taehyung's best friend was park jimin, the blonde boy with a perpetual grin and an energy too big for a room. taehyung's boyfriend - jungkook's chest tightened whenever he thought the word - was min yoongi, a music major.

one day after class, jungkook found himself following taehyung.

his legs moved before his brain caught up, trailing silently behind the smaller boy as he walked with unhurried steps. taehyung's posture was loose, almost indifferent, his bag slung over one shoulder and his face tilted slightly toward the sky, where clouds hung low and heavy.

taehyung always wore elegant clothes, an effortless blouse and dark suit pants, his silhouette followed a soft and harmonious outline, jungkook couldn't help but stare at his figure, soak it in.

he kept his distance, watching how the other boy's shoes scuffed against the ground, how his shoulders shifted under his oversized blouse.

something about him was maddeningly unattainable, like he was walking through a different plane of reality, separate from everyone else.
