Standing in front of the mirror, I inspected the clothes on my body. The one comfort I had in this place so far was that the jacket and sweatpants I had on were enough to keep the cold at bay; from what I could tell with the parts of my skin that were exposed, this place wasn't the warmest. As I patted down my clothes, I found parts where the fabric was charred, as if they'd been dried over a fire and had come too close in some places. As I got to my pants, I felt a flat rectangle in my pocket.
A phone! My phone!
How I remembered what a phone was didn't phase me as odd at the time. Nor did the fact that my first thought was to use its flashlight as an extra light source. I pulled out my phone, nearly blinding myself as the screen lit up.
I didn't know what I was looking at. The screen was a mixture of colours and shapes, which I now know could be described as glitches, filling the display, especially in the top area where the time was meant to show. Instead of numbers, it gave me a bunch of random symbols and letters, switching several times between each blink of the eye.
That wasn't what drew my attention the most, though. What did was the image in the background of the display. It was a photo of two people. One I recognised as the same face that had stared back at me in the mirror, blood now not just filling the colour of the eyes, but rolling down the face. As for the other, it was a woman. Her eyes were completely white, the lifelessness in them contrasting the smile she had. Her short brown hair parted around her forehead, where an ugly gash leaked crimson, like she'd been struck in the forehead with some sort of hooked weapon.
A shudder running through me, I elected to ignore the gruesome image and activated the flashlight from the notification bar, not knowing the passcode. As the white light illuminated the floor, I saw just how rotten the wood actually was, blackened and uneven. And over in the middle of the room, near the spot I'd woken up in was a single sheet of paper. Picking it up, I saw that it was a... set of rules?

1. There are 5 floors in the building. Do not, under any circumstances, attempt to reach the 5th floor.
2. The basement contains several supplies which you may need, but also contains a being of pure hatred. Don't let it hear you.
3. Don't eat anything served in the cafeteria on the 1st floor, no matter how tempting.
4. Do not bring any food to the 2nd floor. They are so very hungry.
5. You may begin to hear music on the 3rd floor. If you do, enter the nearest recording studio you can find and keep the door locked until it ends. You don't want it to hear you.
6. The 4th floor is for employees only. Strictly no access unless you have the necessary clearance.
7. Do not attempt to exit the building if you value your own life or sanity.
8. There is something roaming the building, looking for you. If you remain in any room for longer than 10 minutes, it will know your exact location. Your only hope is to temporarily stun it. It cannot be killed permanently by any means.
9. Clocks don't work in the building. If you see any working clocks, watches, or other indications of time, it's already too late.
10. If you see Teddy anywhere in the building, do not touch it. Walk backwards slowly, and do not take your eyes off it until it is out of your field of vision. If Teddy disappears, run and pray.
11. The building will attempt to trick you with visions, sounds, or false memories. You must ignore these hallucinations.
12. If you see a tall man in any of the rooms in the building, do not answer any of his questions directly. Otherwise, he will show you what you fear most.
