AUTHOR'S POV

"Relax, dude."

"I am."

It was 7 in the evening, the moment the plane landed in New York, Ethan and Scarlett parted their ways with a quiet goodbye. And Ethan straight came to the bar calling Ben to come over there. It's been 4 hours of Ben saying 'relax' to Ethan and him answering with 'I am'. 

Over the call Ethan told everything about the business trip to Ben. He told Ben that how badly he messed up things that night which were going so smooth. Ethan thinks he doesn't know how to make conversations, he still thinks he fucked up everything. 

He was sitting leaning forward in the chair beside the bar stand, his both elbows on his knees with a glass of wine in between his palms. His hair totally disheveled like he just woke up from his sleep, his tie loose on his collar, few top buttons of his shirt were opened making his chest slightly visible and sleeves rolled up to his elbows. 

"You did nothing wrong Ethan, anyone in your position would have asked the same question some out of curiosity and some because of concern. Yours was definitely the latter one. It's just you two don't know each other, she just misinterpreted your intentions and snapped at you."

"Whatever, just accept it that I fucked up." Ben sighed. 

"What should I do to make you believe me?" 

"Keep quiet, I guess." 

"Look dude, it's been more than 4 hours and tomorrow you have to go and see her again, you can't keep sulking."

"What do you want me to do then? Dance?" Ethan said sarcastically but kept looking at the glass in between his palms.

"Uh oh, no, it won't suit you." Ethan glared at him and in return Ben just grinned ear to ear. 

No matter what, Ethan has wondered many times about what would have happened if Ben wasn't beside him. What kind of person he actually would have been today. Ben was there at each worse phase of Ethan's life. Just like now. Not worse but difficult for sure. In this such a busy world you will rarely find someone who is with you for 4 hours listening your problems and helping you to find solutions for them. Not to forget but also trying to lift up your mood. 

"Listen, stop sulking ok. You wanna know her better, you want to be friends with her, and you also know she is a tough shell to crack, right?"

Ethan nodded. 

"That's it then, don't make your hopes go too high just take baby steps."

"Like what?" 

"Start with gaining her trust professionally." He said in a duh tone. As if it was so obvious. 

Ethan raised his eyebrows clearly amused at his friend's duh tone, "you are saying as if you keep on giving love advice to every other person." 

Ben just rolled his eyes, he straightened his posture, kept his glass beside him with a thud and his face turned completely serious, "shut up and be serious, because I am serious right now." Ethan slightly smiled feeling grateful and also kept his glass aside giving him undivided attention. 

"Yes sir"

"First tell me why you want to have more than just professional between you and her?" Ben asked raising an eyebrow. 

Listening this Ethan literally started to think as to why he really wants to know her more. He knew that she is not the one who is anyhow interested in anyone, and it will be just a waste of time if at the end things doesn't go the way he wants. And what if at the end he falls for her very bad whereas she doesn't feel a single emotion towards him, he didn't have that much heart to feel all those things again and he doesn't want it to happen vice-versa. But again, there was this one stupid part inside him which kept on saying to give it a try.
