Eloise and Lorraine slowly walked towards the swing set that stood ground in the backgarden. The sky was engulfed in white, light grey clouds. The trees stood still as the leaves crumbled and fell to the floor. The leaves crunched under Eloise's foot as she and Lorraine walked closer to the young girl on the swing. The girl looked pale, tired and lifeless as she effortlessly swung on the swing. "Hi, there. I'm Lorraine. This is my daughter Eloise." Lorraine spoke in a soft, calm, gentle voice. "Hi." Eloise smiled kindly at the girl. The girl had a football inbetween her feet, kicking it slightly and moving it around as the swing moved back and forth. The girl made no effort to respond. "Mind if we have a seat?" There were two empty swings. One on her left, one on her right as Janet sat in the middle. Eloise and Lorraine took a seat beside the girl. "Do you know why we're here?" Lorraine asked, Eloise kept a soft smile on her face, wanting to silently tell Janet it's okay. Eloise knew what it was like to be in her position. She'd been in it herself before. She was determined to help in any way she could.

Janet sayed quiet. "Well, your mom has told us about what's been going on, and we're here to help if we can." Lorraine explains, Eloise nodding in agreement with her Mom. Lorraine always knew the right things to say. A trait Eloise had gained from her mother. "Would you like to talk about it?" Eloise noticed how Janet seemed more interested in playing with her football than talking. There's a moment of silence. Lorraine and Eloise just observing for a moment.

"You know, when I was about your age, I was visiting my Mom at a hospital and I saw an angel." Eloise tilted her head. She'd never heard this story before, so she was intrigued where her Mom was going with this. Janet finally turned her head and made eye contact with Lorraine. "Yeah." Lorraine nodded, and smiled. "It was standing next to a little boy's bed. It was just gently touching his cheek and then it stopped. And it looked right at me. Of course, my mom and the nurses did not belived me, but I knew it was real." Lorraine smiled. Janet turns her head back down to look at the floor. "Look, I know how it is. I know what it's like to lose your friends because you're different." Eloise bit her lip, and turned away to look back at the house. That sentence hit a bit too close to home. Lorraine took notice, but didn't say or do anything about it. "But I know that one person can change everything. And you just have to open up to them." Lorraine says. There's a silent pause for a moment, Eloise looks back over to Janet and Lorraine. "How did you know you could trust the people you opened up to?" Janet asked. "I didn't. Sometimes I got hurt." Lorraine explains. "Me too." Eloise pipes up, Lorraine sends her a comforting smile, knowing she went through the same thing she did when she was young. "And it took a long time, but I finally found someone who believed me." Lorraine smiled. "What did you so then?" Janet spoke curiously. "I married him." Eloise smiled. She loved hearing about her parents' story. She adored it. Eloise hoped to one day tell stories of her own to her children. Her and Charlie's children.
"I'm just so tired." Janet's voice wavered with vulnerability. Eloise gave the girl a sad, emphatic smile. "I can't sleep here. I used to go to the medical room at school, and they let me sleep there, because I was so worn out. But now I can't even do that." Janet pauses before she lifts her head to meet with Lorraine's eyes. "Everyone's afraid of me. I got no friends. No place I can go to. It makes me feel like I'm not normal." Tears began to fall from Janet's eyes. Eloise felt sympathetic towards this girl. Eloise too, had been in her exact shoes. Having no friends, having no where to go to, having these thoughts and abilities that just don't make any sense. People being afraid of you. It wasn't a nice feeling. Eloise saw herself in the young girl sat infront of her, making her heart pang with painful nostalgia. "You know, whatever is doing this to you wants you to feel this way." Lorraine explains. "But why?" Janet sighs, tiredly. "Because that's what makes it stronger." Eloise briefly stood up, placing her hands in her trench coat pockets and walking away from the swing set abruptly. Janet and Lorraine watch her leave, and excused herself to Janet before quickly following Eloise. "Ellie, what's wrong?" Lorraine says as she now walks beside her daughter. "Nothing." Eloise replied dryly, Lorraine narrowed her eyes, not believing her. "You have to have hope, you know. We can help this little girl." Lorraine had a feeling she knew what was wrong with her daughter. She was right, too. Eloise was silent for a moment before she spoke up. "Well, you know what they say about hope." Eloise pauses, eye contact heavy between herself and Lorraine. "Breeds eternal misery."

Eloise muttered her words before turning on her heel, retreating into the shadows of her own thoughts. Lorraine watched her go, the weight of unspoken pain settling between them like a familiar ghost. She exhaled softly, her chest tightening—she recognized that look in Eloise’s eyes. It was the same one she had worn countless times before.
