Hush. It's been a long day. Finally, it's the weekend, and I can relax with Ru... RUHI?
WHAT THE ......
She's there, curled up on the floor in the narrow space between the sofa and the table, surrounded by tissues like some tragic heroine in a low-budget drama.
Her head rests against the edge of the sofa, her face blotchy, eyes puffy, and nose... well, let's just say it's not looking its best.
Was she crying?"Ruhi?" I called out cautiously, stepping closer.
"What?" came her sharp reply, her voice hoarse and clogged with tears.
Okay, so she's really annoyed. Great. Just great.
"Um... did you have a bad day at work?" I ventured, trying to sound supportive and not at all terrified.
"Bad day?" she repeated, her tone rising like a storm brewing.
"I'm having a bad life, Dheer! Look here." She pointed at her face, dragging me into the vortex of her misery.
"See this? This new pimple?
I haven't even gotten rid of the old acne marks, and there's already a new one!
And you know what that means?
I'm... I'm turning old, Dheer! There's a wrinkle on my face! A WRINKLE!"
Wait, what? Pimple? Wrinkle? Bad life?
My mind raced to catch up. "No, Ruhi," I said, kneeling beside her, trying to make eye contact.
She finally looked at me, her tear-streaked face pulling at something deep inside me.
"Ruhi, there's no wrinkle on your face. And no, you're not turning old."Her lips quivered, and for a moment, I thought I'd made progress. Then she sniffled.
"Then what am I? Huh? Tell me, Dheer! What am I?"
Oh boy. Here goes nothing.
"You... you're getting cute," I blurted out. It was the first thing that popped into my head.
Her red nose, those watery eyes—there was something undeniably endearing about her.
She blinked at me, her expression shifting from vulnerability to... suspicion.
"Cute?" she repeated, her voice dangerously low.
"You called me cute?
""Uh... yes?
""Because I'm not looking sexy or hot now, right?" she demanded, fresh tears welling up in her eyes.
"You think I'm fat, don't you? Oh my God, I'm in my late twenties, and now I'm just a step away from my thirties! Just say it, Dheer. Say it! I'm old and fat!
""What? No! That's not what I—" She is wearing this cute nighty her red nose and that with that face she wants me not to call her cute .
"AHHHHHH!" she screamed, clutching her head dramatically.
"I'm old and wrinkly and fat!"
At that moment, I wanted nothing more than to teleport back to the office.
No, scratch that—to anywhere but here. Why did I even look forward to the weekend?
"Ruhi, it's not what you think," I tried again, my voice rising slightly in desperation.
