Falling into the Sector 5 slums church, Zack lands into the flower bed tended to by a slum dweller named Aerith Gainsborough. Aerith calls to him until he comes to, and Zack offers her one date in the slums in return.

During their date, Zack salvages a kid's wallet from monsters, and buys Aerith a pink hair ribbon, which she takes a liking to. Aerith reveals she fears the SOLDIER and the sky, as she has lived her life under the plate and rarely sees it.

Zack reveals he is a member of SOLDIER, and his eyes have a glow due to having underwent a procedure of Mako enhancement.

Aerith comments that if sky resembles Zack's eyes, it won't be so scary after all.

Zack and Aerith's date is cut short when Zack is called to return to the top of the plate due to another Genesis attack on the Shinra Building.

This time, the attack targets Professor Hojo, Shinra's head of Science Department. While Sephiroth is sent to secure President Shinra, Zack is sent to Hojo's aid, and Angeal decides to take aside and helps Zack.

Genesis confronts Hojo who rebuffs him and claims Hollander is a second rate scientist who will not be able to cure his degradation.

Genesis quotes passages from LOVELESS, believing the "Gift of the goddess" spoken of in the epic would cure him.

Hojo mentions it has a missing fifth act with only a single line remaining: "Even if the morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forestall my return".

However, there are many theories on the story's conclusion. Hojo disregards LOVELESS and the Gift of the goddess as unscientific, and Angeal and Zack beat the Genesis Army out of Midgar. Genesis flies off, summoning a Bahamut Fury, which Zack defeats.

Meanwhile you were back at the Shinra company and still worried for Zack. You wish that you would disobey orders, but Sephiroth was so strict and cold, you didn't want to piss him off.

But you know better that your best friend is strong, nothing can beat the crap out of him.

You soon found yourself hearing rumors that some guys are gossiping about you again. Luckly your buddy Kunsel backs you up and scold them for you. Reassuring that Zack will be back.

You were grateful that you made two friends. And speaking  of 'friends', you wonder what's going on with your dear chocobo-spiky haired boy been up to lately?

It's been ages and yet he still hasn't written any letters to you. Has he been on a job? Or maybe because he's mad that you've been too busy about the mission and you were just too caught up to your own job since you've been studying a lot under Sephiroth's sore thumb.

Your mentor just called a few minutes from him saying that they found Genisis, so you were off the mission and told you to resume your homework.

You were carrying a lot of books by holding them with your arms and balance them with your head while speed walking your way down the halls when all of the sudden you bump into someone and knock all your books to the floor.

"Oh crap! Sorry!" A mysterious trooper knelt down and help you pile all your stacks.

"It's okay, and besides, it's my fault, I need to watch where I'm going." You brushed it off when you finally got  all your books and stack them all in your arm. You look up only seeing a helmet on. Then you hear a gasp from this person which confused you.

"Um... is there a problem?" You asked unsurely.

"Uh... no." He shook his head.

A little shy, you'll give him that.

"Um... okay. Well take care, and.... if you need anything, you can come and find me." You run off passing by the man who watches.

A small whisper to himself seeing such a rare dark color of your black hair.
