As the match continued, Ozpina’s gaze never wavered from Jaune. In him, she saw the echoes of a love she thought lost to time.

Jaune smiled as Cardin lunged at him. He raised his sword and swung it with incredible force. Cardin immediately felt a powerful pressure coming from Jaune’s arm, and golden flames erupted from it.

With a single, swift strike, Jaune sent Cardin flying. He crashed into the wall, leaving cracks in the stone. That one blow drained Cardin’s aura completely, revealing just how weak he truly was.

The others charged in to attack. The skeleton swiftly dispatched Sky with a precise strike. It then grabbed Dove by the neck, lifting him off the ground. Jaune, unfazed, turned and punched Russel square in the face, sending him staggering.

The skeleton swung its sword again, depleting Sky’s aura in an instant. Jaune followed up by punching Russel and Dove simultaneously, sending them both to the ground. Their eyes widened in shock as they realized they were no match for Jaune and his skeletal companion.

In perfect sync, Jaune and the skeleton swung their swords at the same time. The moment the blades connected, a massive explosion of energy erupted. Smoke filled the air, and once it cleared, Russel and Dove lay unconscious and bleeding, utterly defeated.

Jaune smiled as the skeleton vanished into thin air. He calmly walked back to his seat, oblivious to the stunned stares from the rest of the class. The shock on their faces was so intense it seemed as if their jaws might drop to the floor.

Lea and Yang beamed with pride, thrilled at Jaune’s victory. Meanwhile, Headmistress Ozpina sat frozen, her mind consumed by flashbacks. The move Jaune had performed was eerily familiar—it was the signature technique of her late husband.

Her husband, also named Jaune, had once wielded incredible power alongside his skeletal allies. Together, they combined their attacks in perfect harmony, much like Jaune and the skeleton had done moments ago. Just before the blade struck Russel and Dove, Ozpina had caught a glimpse of a faint golden glow emanating from the strike.

That glow wasn’t ordinary—it was mana. Jaune and the skeleton, perhaps unknowingly, had infused their attack with mana, enhancing its destructive power. The memory of her husband’s legendary battle against an army resurfaced vividly in her mind.

This was long before the creation of the Grimm, during a time of wars fought by men. She remembered her husband standing atop a hill with his skeleton at his side. Both of them held bows. He drew the string, channeling mana into the arrow, and the skeleton mirrored his movements. When they released, the arrow shot into the sky, multiplying into thousands. The arrows rained down upon the battlefield, decimating over 10,000 soldiers. As they struck the ground, they erupted in powerful explosions, leaving nothing but devastation in their wake.

The similarity between Jaune’s attack and her husband’s legendary feat left Ozpina shaken. Could this Jaune be the reincarnation of her late husband? Or was this a cruel coincidence? The questions lingered in her mind as she stared at him, lost in thought.

Few hours later

Jaune made his way to his dorm, followed closely by Lea and Yang. The two girls chatted excitedly about Jaune’s semblance and his fight with Team CRDL.

The news of Jaune’s victory, with the help of a skeleton, had already spread across the school. The idea of one person taking down an entire team of four left the student body buzzing. Some accused him of cheating, some were stunned into silence, and others whispered about wanting to confront him.

When they arrived at his dorm, Jaune opened the door and gestured for the girls to enter first. Lea and Yang stepped inside and immediately made themselves comfortable, sitting on his bed. Jaune followed them in, shutting the door behind him before letting out a weary sigh.

“Today was exhausting,” Jaune said as he flopped onto the bed beside them. The girls exchanged amused smiles at his obvious fatigue.

“You can say that again!” Yang exclaimed. “Ugh, Oobleck was so annoying. The way he kept staring at you made me want to jump out of my seat and punch him straight in the nuts.”

Lea chuckled softly but nodded in agreement. “It wasn’t just him. Did you notice how angry some of the other professors looked at Jaune today? It was like he’d done something personal to offend them.”

Jaune stared at the ceiling, letting their words wash over him. He knew things wouldn’t settle down anytime soon, especially after such a public display of power. Still, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction. Whatever challenges lay ahead, he’d face them head-on—just as he always did.

After finishing their meal, Jaune, Lea, and Yang parted ways. Jaune headed into the forest to train, curiosity burning in his mind. He summoned the skeleton again, determined to understand the strange power he had felt earlier. The combined strike he and the skeleton had delivered felt far stronger than any ordinary sword swing.

Jaune wandered through the forest with the skeleton by his side until they returned to the clearing where they had trained before. Eager to unravel the mystery, Jaune and the skeleton attempted to recreate the powerful attack. However, no matter how many times they tried, they couldn’t replicate the same effect.

Frustrated but unwilling to give up, Jaune considered what might have made the strike so unique. Then, an idea struck him—mana. They must have unknowingly infused their attack with mana before.

Focusing his energy, Jaune channeled mana into his sword and signaled the skeleton to do the same. Together, they swung their blades in unison, and the result was unmistakable. The power surged through them, and their combined strike exploded with the same overwhelming force as before.

Jaune grinned, thrilled at the success of his move. Encouraged, he continued experimenting with the skeleton, refining the technique further. He made subtle enhancements, adjusting the timing, precision, and energy flow. Each change amplified the attack’s power, making it not only stronger but also far more destructive.

By the time he perfected it, the resulting attack could carve out a massive crater. While it wasn’t large enough to destroy Beacon itself, it was powerful enough to leave a devastating hole in the academy grounds—a realization that left Jaune both awed and cautious.

After hours of relentless training, Jaune finally felt satisfied. With a simple command, the skeleton vanished into thin air, leaving him alone in the quiet forest. Exhausted but content, he made his way back to the academy.

As he entered, he noticed the whispers and fearful stares of the other students. Their gazes followed him as though he were a dangerous beast. But Jaune paid them no mind. Night had already fallen, and he had more important things to focus on.

After a quick dinner in the mess hall, he returned to his dorm. To unwind, he booted up his favorite game and lost himself in its world for a few hours. When sleep finally caught up with him, he shut everything off, laid back on his bed, and drifted into a peaceful slumber.
