Jaune was walking through the halls of Beacon when he accidentally bumped into someone. Both Jaune and the person fell to the floor, and Jaune quickly tried to apologize, but the other person beat him to it.

"Sorry about that, I wasn't watching where I was going," the other person said.

Jaune stood up and offered his hand to help the person. The stranger happily accepted. As the person took his hand and stood up, they smiled and introduced themselves.

"The name’s Riser Phenex, but you can just call me Riser," said the other person, his dark blue eyes meeting Jaune’s, and his short blonde hair shining in the light.

Jaune took his hand and responded, "The name’s Jaune ar—just Jaune." He paused, almost saying his last name, but stopped himself, memories of what his family had done causing a flash of sadness and anger to cross his face. Riser noticed this and chose not to ask, sensing the pain behind Jaune’s brief hesitation.

"So, are you new?" Jaune asked.

Riser chuckled and nodded. "Yeah, I just got here a few hours ago." He smiled, but inside, his emotions were a storm of conflict, each one struggling to coexist after everything that had happened to him in his own world.

Riser Phenex had been betrayed in his world by the very people—or devils—he had once considered family. His entire peerage had left him, following Issei, including his sister. But the worst part was the reaction of his parents and the entire Underworld after he lost to Issei. His parents, in a fit of rage, had disowned him. The Underworld had mocked him, even physically assaulting him, turning their backs on him completely.

Riser may have been arrogant, but he had never physically hurt anyone. He was a perv, sure, but never in a way that could be called disgusting. He had never laid a hand on his peerage or anyone else, except those who had challenged him to a fight. Yet, despite all of this, everyone had labeled him a villain and a pervert, while Issei, who was far worse, had somehow earned the admiration of those same people.

In the end, Riser had grown tired of the constant mistreatment. After all that had happened, he had used a spell to escape his world, seeking refuge somewhere far away from the chaos.

When Riser first arrived in Remnant, the very first thing he encountered was a swarm of Grimm, all intent on killing him. But being a fire user, Riser had no trouble dealing with them. His flames, now more potent than ever, made quick work of the creatures. What surprised him most, though, was how his powers had evolved in this world. His normal flames, once red and orange, had turned a deep, eerie blue and black.

Riser quickly realized that while the blue flames were undeniably stronger, the black flames were something else entirely. They didn’t burn as fiercely, but they never seemed to be put out—no matter how much they were smothered. It was a strange but useful trait that intrigued him.

An hour later, Riser arrived at Beacon Academy and immediately went to speak with the headmaster. He asked to be allowed to become a student. Surprisingly, the headmaster agreed without much resistance. Riser’s appearance had changed, and in this world, he seemed to have de-aged, returning to his 17-year-old self, making him a perfect fit as a student at Beacon.

"Hello? Are you okay?" Riser heard a voice. He shook his head, snapping out of his thoughts, and found his new teammate standing in front of him. Riser scratched the back of his head awkwardly before handing Jaune something.

"What's this?" Jaune asked, looking at the letter in his hands before opening it. As he read through it, Jaune's eyes widened in realization—Riser was his teammate.

"Yeah, so we’re a team," Riser said with a slight chuckle. "This is a strange way to introduce ourselves, huh? Bumping into each other like this instead of a normal meeting." He laughed a little.
