The morning started with an alarm far too early for my liking. I had slept restlessly, and the thought of being Luna Adeline's protector gave me chills. Aras, who had seen how tense I was the night before, told me not to worry, but it was easier said than done.I arrived at Alpha Lucian's office on time, dressed in a uniform that made me feel more like a nanny than a bodyguard. Derya had already made her judgment.
"You look like a high-end waitress. Bravo, Deniz! You're going to make an incredible impression," she commented sarcastically.
"Shut up, Derya, you're not helping," I muttered, trying to straighten my posture.
Standing outside the office, Adeline appeared like she had just walked out of a fashion magazine. Her long hair was perfectly styled, her outfit screamed wealth and arrogance, and the disdainful way she glanced at me was the cherry on top.
"You're late," she said, even though I was perfectly on time.
"No, I'm not," I replied flatly.
She raised an eyebrow and gave me a once-over, her lips twitching in what could have been a smirk.
"Well, from now on, you'll arrive fifteen minutes earlier. I don't tolerate tardiness, even when it's punctual."
Derya burst out laughing in my head.
"Is she serious? She wants you to be early to being on time? Oh, Deniz, you've got your hands full with this one."
"Don't start," I shot back internally, grinding my teeth.
Adeline snapped her fingers, pulling my attention back to her.
"Did I lose you already, or are you always this... distracted?"
"I'm here, Luna," I said through clenched teeth, emphasizing her title to show respect, even if I didn't feel it.
"Good. Follow me. And try to keep up."
She spun on her heels and started walking, her high heels clicking against the floor like a metronome of doom.
We arrived at the pack house. At Alpha's order she now has an office here. I stood in the corner of her office, watching her work, when she looked up with a frown.
"Deniz," she said, her voice sharp, "I need my coffee. Go get it."
I blinked, confused.
"Excuse me?" I asked, unsure if I had heard her correctly.
"You heard me. Coffee. I prefer it with two sugars and a splash of cream. Don't make me repeat myself."
I felt my blood pressure rise, but I held my tongue.
"I'm not your assistant, Luna, I am your bodyguard. " I said, trying to maintain my composure.
She didn't flinch. If anything, her expression became colder.
"You're here to protect me, not to make decisions, if I don't drink my coffee I will have a bad day. " she snapped. "So go get the damn coffee."
My hand curled into a fist at my side. I was here to protect her, not fetch her drinks. But I was stuck in this role for now. With a deep breath, I nodded stiffly.
"Fine. I'll be back in a moment."
I walked out of the office, seething. As I crossed the pack house, Derya's voice sounded in my head.
"Well, that's one way to start the day. You're her coffee-fetching lackey now, huh?"
"I'm not fetching coffee for her," I muttered back.
