Cooper was always mediocre. Mediocre looks, mediocre body, mediocre intelligence. He didn't outshine in one aspect enough to get an edge on society, but he wasn't bad at anything either. He was just.. as normal as normal could get. He'd always been.

So when he'd met a badger named Momo that became his best friend, he knew he wanted to start something. He wanted to gain that edge above everyone else and show the world that he wasn't just mediocre.

Time, money, planning, building and so many sleepless nights it took to get where they wanted. Their dream. Momo and Cooper's coffee tease! It would have been revolutionary, something no one had thought of yet. Who didn't like sex? Who didn't like food? Put the two together and you've got a weird little spot that maybe most wouldn't go, but it was niche enough to attract hundreds of people from different cities. It was the perfect idea.

And when they'd opened up their store it was miraculous. With an advertisement team that worked their asses off, they were able to get a few people in on the first day and it was a hit. People kept coming from around the world just to see this weird little spot that combined food and sex. Such a weird combination, but something that scratched the perfect itch for some people.

Things were going well until the hype died down after a few years, and they were just as popular as any old coffee shop down the road. Once you went once it wasn't a place you needed to go again if you didn't live in the city, and even then it was still such a removed and looked down upon idea.

Momo, after a few more months of negative sales said they needed an edge, better looking people, tighter, more revealing clothing, and even hiring famous actors. But it simply wasn't in the budget. Just when Cooper thought his dream would be over as soon as it started, Momo had an idea.

Momo was a good person in Cooper's eyes. At least he used to be. But, when he suggested hiring registered sex offenders among other criminals into their shop it was a deal breaker. What, just because they were good looking? They would change right?

Upon looking back at what the vision was before, it wasn't anything like how it started. Now it pushed the sexual aspect so hard it was basically a strip club. The idea skyrocketed revenue, and Cooper got a large sum of money for it, but it didn't matter if the vision he had before was gone.

So one day he moved out of the office and left, ignored all of Momo's texts and calls. They got into a dispute after a few days of ignoring him, but Momo didn't care about what the vision was as long as it made money. No matter how scummy the people he hired were, no matter how underhanded he had to be in order to get it.

Cooper was mediocre, but if he had to stay that way so a power hungry monster didn't get too much influence, he would gladly take that risk and give up on his dream.

His once best friend turned into someone almost entirely unrecognizable in Cooper's eyes. He was a completely different person at that point. They weren't friends anymore.

And when Cane told him he would have to go back to that coffee shop in order to get Amais a job, all he could think of was, why now? Why there? They could choose anywhere else, but upon hearing about the war, the time crunch, it made more sense why they needed this. So Cooper stuck it out. He was mad but he did.

When he saw Momo again he wanted to punch him, but he also wanted to hug him. He looked nearly exactly the same as he did before. But he wasn't the same and he had to accept that.

So it was just as much a shock to himself as it was to Amais when he screamed at the top of his lungs. It felt like it had exploded from his mouth. Maybe he was just angry, maybe it was everything piled up at once, all of his past emotions, his annoyance and hatred for Momo, but his love as well. He could barely even stop himself from slapping a hand over his mouth after he'd said it too.
