"The blond guy with a temper problem that you provoked a while back."
"Hm." Ares pursed his lips for a few moments, seemingly deep in thought, but it ultimately ended with him shrugging his shoulders dismissively. "Yeah, I've got no clue who that is. I'm not good at remembering people who are unimportant."
If Katsuki heard him say that, there would definitely be a war on our hands...
"If you're going to visit me regardless of how Zeus feels, then we can pick this up another time," you said. "Right now, I'm just exhausted. Unlike you, I do need sleep. It might be hard for someone who's immortal to understand."
You wouldn't have been surprised if there was further protest on the matter. After all, Ares could be stubborn and persistent to a fault, but perhaps it was sympathy for everything you'd gone through, or maybe even some uncharacteristic maturity on his part? Whatever the case, he decided to relent, just this once.
"Fine," Ares shrugged, and your shoulders slumped-both in relief, and from sheer, utter exhaustion. "You're right. We can pick this up another time. I'm sure my father doesn't actually care that much. He was only upset because Aphrodite directly interfered with your fate, by lending you her powers while you were at the forest training camp. As you well know, he's incredibly stuck up, and doesn't like the idea of humans wielding powers akin to the gods. He's got an ego, put simply."
That was the understatement of the century. But again, you were afraid to agree and insult a god outright, lest Zeus smite you from Olympus.
"I hope, for everyone's sake, you're right," you sighed.
Ares' eyes crinkled at the corners. "Don't worry. I wouldn't do anything to get you in trouble. You'll just have to trust me on this. Anyway, if you're going to sleep, do you mind if I grab a face mask? Aphrodite keeps raving about those things. She says they'll help me chill out, or something. Aren't I already the epitome of level-headedness?"
"Oh, definitely. You're the calmest person I know."
"See? Aphrodite doesn't even know what she's talking about," Ares laughed. "What a fool. I can't wait to laugh in her face later."
You rolled your eyes again, but deep down, you couldn't help but admit that you'd missed this.
"...the incident in which the police escort carrying the criminal, Chisaki Kai, was attacked, was an unprecedented failure. It has also been confirmed that an important piece of evidence has been lost, and the police are currently taking heavy criticism."
It was all over the news when you woke up the next morning. The perpetrators were none other than the League of Villains, of course. Although it appeared as if they'd been temporarily allied with the Shie Hassaikai, clearly, they weren't above betraying other organizations if it benefited them. The piece of evidence the news report was referring to had to be Chisaki's final, completed product. The anti-Quirk bullets. To be honest, it was pitiful that he'd cast aside his humanity in order to develop them, just to lose it all in the end. Part of you felt sorry for him. You felt sorry for him because you now knew that he was capable of love. If only he'd learned to love in a healthy way, instead of turning to obsession. If only.
Well, no matter. You weren't exactly going to waste your time sympathizing with a man who'd abused a poor little girl. Eri was safe now, and that was the most important thing. The raid was over. You were going to try to put it behind you and face forward.
