Lando woke up with a killing headache, the kind that always followed nights like last night, chaotic, reckless, and filled with too many fleeting moments.

The warm but naked chest underneath him makes him realise he has gone too far once more.

After the break up with Carlos Lando had realised that he's bad at waking up alone. Something that had brought him in this position more then once.

Last night that feeling brought him to Jake.

Jake had always been a good friend, they had been getting closer over the past two years in the Mclaren factory.

But they never crossed a line, this line the one line between friends and something more that had blurred after a few too many drinks last night.

Now, Lando was staring at the ceiling, trying to remember the specifics of what happened between them, kisses shared in the dark, whispered words that didn't seem to matter in the light of day.

He could hear Jake's steady breathing behind him, still asleep, but it was obvious this wasn't something either of them would want to acknowledge in the harsh reality of morning.

Lando sighed and got out of bed quietly, not wanting to wake Jake.

As he slipped into his clothes quietly wanting Jake to stay asleep, this was a one time thing for him. But for Jake he didn't know. He hoped so. But he wasn't sure.

He grabbed his phone from the nightstand and saw a message from Carlos, which he ignored without hesitation.

He knew the relationship was over, yet there was still an ache every time he saw Carlos's name even if it just was in the family groupchat.

As he slipped his phone into his pocket, Lando made his way to the door, pausing only for a moment to glance at the bed where Jake lay.

"You're probably still asleep," Lando muttered under his breath before stepping out into the hallway and leaving the apartment. He didn't want to deal with the aftermath of their choices.

Later that morning, as Lando was making coffee at the house, for himself, Alex and George.

His phone buzzed on the kitchen counter. He glanced at it, seeing that George did the same, it was a text from Jake.

Jake: "Hey, uh... I woke up and... you were gone. Did you like ditch me or? Because I don't really know what's going on here. I mean, I also never thought we would do that together but yea..."

Lando stared at the message, chewing on his lip.

He hadn't expected Jake to react like this. Sure, they'd both been in the same headspace but Jake had always been the more grounded one between the two of them.

Lando knew Jake was feeling something about him leaving, and the other things that had happened.

Lando sighed, running a hand through his hair as he typed out his reply. He wanted to be honest with Jake, but the truth felt complicated.

Lando: "Yeah, we did. I didn't plan on it, but I guess... it happened. It's probably best if we just don't talk about it. I'm not really in a place for anything serious right now."

He stared at the message for a moment before hitting send, feeling the familiar weight of emotional distance settle over him.

He wasn't ready for any more complications. He had his own mess to clean up, his own heart to fix.

Seconds later, Jake's reply came through.

Jake: "Alright. But... we're still friends, right? I'm not mad or anything. Just trying to figure all this out."
