Chapter: Love Under Fire
The golden sunlight filtered through the windows, warming the room as Lauren stirred awake. Her body was heavy with contentment, and for a moment, she forgot where she was. Then, her hand brushed soft skin, and her eyes fluttered open to see Camila lying beside her, her chest gently rising and falling with each breath.
Lauren smiled. She felt a swell of affection she hadn't allowed herself to fully embrace before. The chaos outside the walls of this house was real, but in this moment, it didn't matter. Camila was here, and so was she.
Unable to resist, Lauren leaned down to place a soft kiss on Camila's shoulder. The warmth of her lips roused Camila, who stirred and blinked up at Lauren with a sleepy smile.
"Morning, Lolo," Camila murmured, her voice still thick with sleep.
Lauren grinned. "Morning, Camz."
Camila reached up, her fingers tracing the line of Lauren's jaw before pulling her down for a kiss. It started soft, a lazy good-morning kiss, but it deepened as their emotions spilled over. Camila's hands tangled in Lauren's hair, while Lauren's fingers explored the curve of Camila's waist.
As their kisses turned more fervent, Lauren pulled back slightly, her forehead resting against Camila's. "If we don't stop now, we'll never get out of bed," she teased, her voice husky.
Camila laughed, a sound that sent shivers down Lauren's spine. "And that would be such a tragedy," she quipped, pulling Lauren back down for another kiss.
Eventually, they managed to pull themselves out of bed and into the kitchen, where they prepared breakfast together. Camila leaned against the counter, watching Lauren whisk eggs with a concentrated expression.
"You're so domestic," Camila teased.
Lauren glanced at her, smirking. "Don't get used to it. This is a rare occurrence."
"Rare or not, I like it," Camila said softly, and Lauren's smirk softened into a smile.
As they ate, they laughed and talked like they used to, falling easily into old patterns. Camila called Lauren "Lolo," and Lauren teased her with "Camz." For a few precious hours, it felt like they were in their own little world, untouched by the chaos outside.
But the bubble burst when Lauren's phone buzzed on the counter. She ignored it at first, unwilling to let the real world intrude, but Camila's phone began vibrating too, and the urgency was impossible to ignore.
Camila sighed, reaching for her phone. Her expression darkened as she read the messages.
"What's wrong?" Lauren asked, setting her fork down.
"It's our managers," Camila said, her voice tight. "They're not happy."
Lauren groaned, grabbing her own phone to find a string of texts and missed calls. Her manager's messages were blunt:
"We need to talk. NOW."
"The media frenzy is out of control."
"You're risking your career."Lauren's jaw clenched. "Unbelievable. They've had us hiding for years, and now they're mad that we're finally being honest?"
Camila reached for Lauren's hand, her fingers trembling slightly. "What are we going to do, Lolo? I don't want to lose you, but..."
Lauren squeezed her hand. "You're not losing me. We'll deal with them together."
The meeting with their managers later that afternoon was tense. They sat across from their teams in a private office, the tension so thick it was almost suffocating.
"You need to understand the gravity of this situation," Camila's manager began, his voice sharp. "The media is already out of control. This isn't just about you two—it's about your brands, your fans, your endorsements."
Lauren leaned back in her chair, her arms crossed. "So what's the solution? Pretend we're not together? Lie to everyone, including ourselves?"
"No one's asking you to lie," Lauren's manager said, though his tone suggested otherwise. "But you need to be careful. The timing is terrible. You both have major projects coming up. This is a distraction."
Camila's eyes flickered to Lauren, her heart pounding. "So what do you want us to do? Break up?"
Her manager hesitated, then said, "We're not saying that. But maybe you should cool things down publicly. Keep it private until things settle."
Lauren's anger flared. "We've already done that—hid who we are for years. And for what? To make you guys happy? To avoid upsetting some fans? We're done hiding."
Camila looked at Lauren, her heart swelling with pride. Lauren's determination made her feel braver, stronger. She turned to their managers, her voice steady. "He's right. We've already sacrificed so much. This time, we choose us."
The managers exchanged uneasy looks, clearly realizing they wouldn't win this battle.
Later that evening, back at Lauren's house, the tension from the meeting was a distant memory. They curled up on the couch, sharing a blanket and a bowl of popcorn.
"Do you think it's going to be okay?" Camila asked, her head resting on Lauren's shoulder.
Lauren kissed the top of her head. "As long as we're together, it will be."
Camila smiled, tilting her face up to kiss Lauren. The kiss was soft and slow, a reaffirmation of their love. Lauren's hands slid to Camila's waist, pulling her closer, while Camila's fingers traced delicate patterns on Lauren's back.
Their movements became more deliberate, their kisses deeper. Lauren gently guided Camila onto her lap, her hands exploring Camila's curves as their lips moved in perfect sync.
For a moment, all that existed was them—their love, their connection, their promise to face the world together.
But outside their safe haven, the world was watching. Somewhere in the shadows, a figure lurked. Selena, still smarting from Lauren's rejection, had been quietly following her. When she spotted Lauren leaving Camila's house that morning, her jealousy flared.
With a wicked smile, she pulled out her phone and began typing.
"You think you can just brush me off, Lauren? Let's see how the world reacts when they find out the truth..."
