That evening, as the rest of the group touched down in the U.S., Rhodey and Noah were a world away from the chaos that seemed to follow Tony Stark everywhere he went. They were seated at an intimate little restaurant tucked into a quiet corner of the city, the flicker of candlelight adding warmth to the cozy space.
Initially, they'd both hesitated about going through with the date. Tony's Monaco fiasco had left everyone on edge, and it didn't feel like the best time for leisure. But Nathan had been firm. "Tony will be fine. Trust me. Go enjoy yourselves. You both deserve a break."
It was advice they reluctantly followed, and, as it turned out, Nathan had been right.
The conversation had flowed easily between Rhodey and Noah. It started with lighthearted jokes about military protocol and Noah teasing Rhodey about his no-nonsense demeanor. But as the evening progressed, the talk grew deeper. They touched on everything from their shared love of music to the responsibilities they carried in their respective lives.
Noah told a story about growing up, how he used to sneak into a neighbor's backyard to watch airplanes fly overhead, daydreaming about far-off places. Rhodey countered with his own tales from flight school, describing the adrenaline of his first solo flight. It was an easy rhythm, each of them genuinely invested in what the other had to say.
