The Flight

The first light of dawn crept through the curtains, casting a soft, golden glow over the room.

Rahul stirred, his eyes slowly fluttering open. For a moment, he didn't move, his mind still wrapped in the haze of sleep.

Then he became aware of the warmth against his chest.

Kiran's head resting there, her breathing soft and steady.

He didn't dare move, afraid to disturb the peaceful moment.

His eyes traced her delicate features, her hair gently tousled across her face.

 It was real.

She was here, with him, not just a figment of his imagination. The weight of her body against his was proof enough.

Yet, as his heart swelled with a quiet joy, disbelief lingered.

It felt like he had stepped into a dream too fragile to last.

Her kisses last night, the way she had come to him. saving him in more ways than one, was something he had never dared to hope for.

And yet, it had happened.

Careful not to wake her, he shifted slightly.

Her face was serene, the tension and uncertainty he had seen last night was gone, replaced by a quiet calm.

But while she rested, his mind was a storm of thoughts.

He glanced toward the window, where the early light was slowly brightening the room.

They would need to leave soon, before the rest of the world woke.

But before that, he had to come to terms with everything that had happened, everything still left unsaid.

He had seen the strain in her eyes, the hints of something broken beneath her calm exterior, but she hadn't told him why and he was afraid to ask.

Was it because of Sunil?

Despite himself, he knew she must have been in some deeply painful situation to come to him of all people.

She had a life of her own, a life that didn't include him.

She had a husband. Where did he even fit in?

That thought weighed heavily on him, especially after what had happened between them last night.

The closeness they'd shared, the kisses, it still felt unreal.

She had kissed him, and he couldn't make sense of it.

Maybe he didn't want to either.

Explaining it would only ruin the memory, one he wasn't even entirely sure had happened.

He looked down at her again. Her fingers curled lightly against his chest in her sleep, and the sight tugged at his heart.

She had told him she wanted to leave with him.

  But Why?

didn't she fear him? Hate him? He had seen it in her eyes before. Maybe not last night but still ...

How had things changed so completely in one night?

It was like she finally understood him, and that understanding had made her brave.

A part of him wanted to wake her and ask her all the questions burning inside him.

But he stopped himself. She deserved a little more peace, even if it was just for a while.
