HYEJIN WASN'T THERE when Gihun was getting a tooth pulled out so he could wear a fake one with a GPS tracker in it. Wooseok had basically gave her a vivid picture when she did show up to the hotel again. She had just checked on Cheol for a bit.
They met some of the veterans that Wooseok had convinced to join their crusade. To be fair to him, he did quite a job, finding men from the Marine Corps, the UDT and ROK Special Forces. He introduced them to the team leader, Mr Kim.
"You must be careful tomorrow." Gihun instructed. "If they notice you, it could ruin everything."
"Don't worry," Wooseok reassured in English, which only made Hyejin feel way less sure but it seemed that this Kim guy had a firm grip on things. He switched back to Korean, pointing at himself, Gihun and Hyejin. "Only us three will go in the club. These guys will be on standby nearby."
"Will they even let you in?" Junho queried.
"Come on, I've already got the perfect clubbing outfit. I clean up well," Wooseok said, and Hyejin pulled a face, which brought a chuckle from Junho before his expression turned serious.
"I'll go in with you," Junho turned to Gihun and Hyejin.
"No," Gihun shook his head. "Your face was exposed on the island. They might recognize you." He turned back to Kim. "Don't make a move until I give you the signal."
"Understood."
"And if something happens to either of us tomorrow--" Gihun began, but Wooseok cut in.
"Nothing is going to happen," Wooseok said. "You've got your tracker. Wherever you're taken, we'll be right behind you guys. So you can relax, don't worry!" He then jumped when one of the veterans cocked a rifle and began firing again, putting his headphones back on.
"Yeah," Hyejin added sarcastically, making a face at Gihun. "We're doing this together, so we got this!" She unenthusiastically did a fist pump that Gihun actually smiled at.
Hyejin leaned against the edge of the table, picking at her nails as her eyes darted around the room before focusing on the unrolled sheet of paper displaying the layout of the club. The gravity of what they were about to do sat heavily on her chest. Gihun, sitting across from her, seemed to share her unease, though he masked it better.
"You look like you're gonna burn a hole in that," Junho said from behind her.
She turned to find the detective leaning casually against the wall, arms folded, watching her with an appraising look.
"Just making sure I know the layout," she replied curtly, glancing at the marked-up paper again. "You can't be too careful with these guys."
Junho nodded, his expression softening slightly. "That's true. But you've got good people around you. Gihun, Wooseok, the veterans—they know what they're doing."
