Luckily I brought my own lunch today. I don't think I could eat the food in the lunch line. I know I should try new things, but I just wanted to bring my lunch. I have a small bowl of shells and cheese, some strawberries, a homemade brownie, and a water. I look around for somewhere to sit and find an empty table near the back. I sit and as I unpack my lunch I feel a presence of someone standing over me. I look up to see Mark smiling down at me.
"You don't mind me sitting by you do you?" he asks and I shake my head.
I can't talk because I have a mouthful of food. I don't want to be rude and spit it out all over him. I chuckle at the thought and he gives me a confused look.
Two other people sit down and I look up to see Shane and Kian smile back at me.
I smile back at them and continue to eat. I start to stare at Shane. I get caught when I find his eyes meeting mine. I turn my focus on my food quickly. I feel my cheeks flaring up.
"How come you didn't tell us you went here? If you did we could have helped you with your classes," Shane offers.
I shrug my shoulders and say, "I don't know, I guess I never thought about it. It's alright, a girl named Gillian helped me out."
"Ooh see Shane, she could help you out. She could ask for you," Kian elbows him.
I give him a confused look and Mark helps me out.
He scoots closer to me and whispers, "He likes Gillian. He's been wanting to ask her out for the longest time. He's just too shy to tell her."
I nod in understanding, but really I can't comprehend what he says.
He likes Gillian. Of course, she's nice, funny, and pretty. I 'm no match for her, but I can't help but feel abandoned. Why do I feel like this? I could never have Shane.
"I can ask her out for you if you want?" I say and immediately regret it.
"YES! Thank you, thank you! It's just hard for me because I freeze up when I try to ask her out," he says and Kian and Mark laughs.
"Oh, you should see him around her. It was brilliant! He waddles there like a penguin, then he quickly waddles back because he's too scared! Luckily your one of my best friends or I wouldn't let you have a crush on my cousin," he says and pats Shane on the back. He blushes in embarrassment.
"Wait, Gillian is your cousin?" I ask confused again.
"Yeah, my mom and her mom are sisters," he replies.
"Oh," I say and finish eating.
The warning bell rings for us to go back to our classes. I wave bye to them and head to my next class. The rest of the day goes by very quickly and I am not late for any other classes.
When I finally get home, I see Lily cooking in the kitchen. Before I try to go up the steps, she runs over and stops me.
"Sophie, wait!" she huffs for a second.
"Look, just listen to me."
"Why should I? You obviously don't want to listen to me so why should I listen to you?"
"I know, and you don't, but can I at least tell you what I've been wanting to tell you all day?"
I sigh. This better be good.
"Look, Sophie, I know we haven't gotten off on the right foot, but I want us to be friends. Not just sisters, but friends. And I know what I said this morning was stupid, but I hope you can forgive me. This is my last year of my form and then I'm off to a uni, and I would like to spend it with my new sister. So what do you say?"
"I would be honored to be your new sister."
After eating and discussing teachers at school, I go upstairs and work on my Life Science project. Lily told me you get to pick our electives the second day, but it doesn't mean you will get it. I really want to learn French, so I'm hoping I'm able to get it.
When I finish working I decide to call it a night after I take a shower before I go to bed. I fall asleep eventually, drifting off into slumber. I have another dream about Shane.
