Shane came back the next day feeling great, while I on the other hand, was not. I had been starting to feel ill the day after I had gone to see Shane. I knew I would get sick if I slept with him, but it was worth it. It was worth feeling like I was in a real relationship for once.
"I know we're just friends, but I want it to become more. I want to talk to him about what happened on Monday but what if he doesn't remember?" I told Lily.
"Hmm..." she says tilting her head. "Well, I think you should tell him, but be subtle about it. Ask him if he remembers. If not, don't tell him anything else. When will you ask him?"
"I was thinking tomorrow, on Friday. Is that too soon?"
"You either tell him in the next twenty-four hours or you don't tell him at all."
I sigh. "I guess it's settled then."
~
Friday was here, and I felt like crap. My sister wrapped me in a blanket and put gloves on my hands to keep them warm. It would help for a few minutes, but then I would feel like I would be sitting in a fire so I would throw everything off in a quick hurry.
It was a constant struggle for the both of us.~
"101.3 degrees. Yep, you've got a fever young lady," the nurse said as she took out the thermometer. "Is there a parent or guardian that can pick you up?"
Shit. I was suppose to tell him today.
"I think both of my parents are at work, but you can still call to see if they will pick up?" I knew they probably wouldn't pick up, but it was worth a shot.
"Okay we'll call mum first. What's her number?"
"It is (71) 437 6996. I think that should be her cell."
"Okay, I'll dial it."
As she dialed it I could here the ringing from the phone trying to get ahold of my mum's phone, but no luck. I then heard the long beep and the nurse left a message.
"No luck with her, but I left a message. What's your dad's cell?"
"It's (71) 561 4779."
"I'll call him too."
As she called the same depressing process began again.
"Nope. Nothing from him either. Wait a minute, let me look at your file! There should be other people your parents have trusted to pick you up."
She goes to the filing cabinet and pulls out my file. She scans through it with her finger and stops at the emergency guardians area.
"Here it is. Do you know Mae? Mae Filan?" she asks and my eyes widen in surprise.
They're friends? They trust her?
Mae isn't a bad person at all, she's honestly one of the sweetest I know, but just hearing that last name brings me shivers. Knowing that Mae is Shane's mother still freaks me out and how that she is on my file. She is my last hope however.
"...Hello? Miss Sanders! Do you know Mrs. Filan?"
"Oh, sorry yes. You may call her now please."
She dialed and and before the third ring Mae had picked up and I knew that today would not end up well.
~
"Here's a cup of my favorite traditional creamy potato soup. I hope that helps your fever and chills honey. Ring the bell if you need anything," Mae smiled as she slightly closed the door.
I preferred Shane's room, but Yvonne's room was also cozy. I couldn't deny that.
Of course, to treat my differing temperatures she put a rag on my head for my beating head and a heating pad & thin blanket to keep me warm when I froze.
I just hope I could get some rest, but not until I ate first.
I ate about half the bowl before setting it back down on the nightstand. I don't know what it is about soups but they help you feel more drowsy, so I decided to rest my eyes.
Just as I was about to get comfortable and close my eyes the door flies open.
I quint my eyes and make out I short slender figure with slight chubby cheeks. Oh no. It's Shane. I sit up and drop the rag from my forehead.
"Who did you tell?" he yells.
"What? What are you talking about?" I croak.
"The guys are telling me that we are a thing. They told me they heard it from Gillian. Gillian said that some girl in the upper class told her everything that happened that night. The only person who was there was with me was you. Who did you tell?"
"I only told my sister, but-"
"No buts. No excuses. Why would you tell anyone? This was a one time thing and nothing more. I love Gillian, and that's that. I think you should stay away and keep your distance away from me for awhile."
"B-but for how long?"
"I'm not sure. Probably forever."
"NO!" I practically cried. "It wasn't my fault! You have to understand!"
"I can't understand someone who would tell others about something so sacred."
He starts to walk off, but stops right in the doorway.
"You can stay, but you never come here after today," he points at me and slams the door.
The only thing I see are tears falling down my face before I fall asleep.
