Becky kicked down her side stand and twisted the ignition key off. Her motorcycle's humming and vibration immediately halted. She exhaled heavily and looked around with confidence through her one-way helmet visor. The parking's usual environment at 7:30 AM was evident. Typical guys in open polos trying to act chill and cool while sucking on their flavored tobacco devices, and freshmen girls walking into the parking lot aimlessly as they try to fish one of the guys in polo.
Becky pulled her helmet strap off of her chin and removed it from her head. Her short dark chestnut hair radiated brightly against the sunlight and fell on her shoulders smoothly, like silk falling from her head. She felt eyes turn to her as soon as she drove into the parking lot, and she could still feel them on her as she remained straddled on her idle vehicle.
Why am I the only girl who's driving a motorcycle to campus? It's attracting so much attention every time. She thought to herself irritably as she dismounted from the motorcycle.
She rolled her eyes and put on a pissed face as she opened her compartment to grab the large red gym bag and replaced it with the helmet. She slung her gym bag on her shoulder and closed her compartment, double checking it before walking away.
As she walked slowly towards campus, her phone started vibrating in her shorts' pocket. She took it out and checked the screen before answering the call.
"Hey Nam. I'm walking to campus right now." Becky said as she minded the people walking towards her direction.
"Yeah, I knew you'd be early. I'm finishing up on my part in our research. Are you finished?" Nam asked from the other end.
"Yep. Just gotta proofread everything."
Nam giggled in delight. "Okay good, 'cause I'm gonna ask you to check on mine. I feel like it's not enough yet. I'm sitting here on the tables beside the cafeteria."
Before Becky could say anything else, Nam hung up from the other end of the line, leaving Becky confused. She laughed it off and continued walking. As soon as she entered the gate, she saw Nam sitting on one of the tables. She approached her and placed her large gym bag on the opposite bench then sat beside Nam.
Nam looked at Becky's gym bag with a baffled expression on her face. She the looked at Becky with the same intense expression.
"Why do you have a huge bag? Are you gonna have a sleepover here in campus?" Nam asked, almost as if she was disgusted with the thought.
Becky fished her phone out from her pocket and unlocked it. "Dumbass. I told you I'm going to the university retreat, right?"
Nam raised an eyebrow. "What? You took that subject this term? It was supposed to be next term."
Becky shrugged her shoulders. "Oh well, I thought we had to take it now. Too bad I won't be in the retreat with you guys."
"Yeah, it would've been fun if we all got into the same room overnight." Nam chuckled at the thought. "Oh, that means almost half of the research class is going to be away for the retreat too."
Becky nodded. "I think so too. I heard Drea and Frank will be there, and I think Frung and her girlfriend Songjet from the other department too."
Becky's phone suddenly vibrated. She read the screen and rolled her eyes when she saw the name, but she took the call anyway.
