Becky just finished parking her motorcycle at her usual spot. She felt the usual gawking from the variety of people around her, making her roll her eyes behind her sunglasses. She straightened her shimmering beige coat and dusted her matching beige shorts as she de-straddled herself from the motorcycle. Becky felt her inner shirt-a brown collared cropped top-riding up her ribcage, so she pulled it down before strapping her backpack behind her.
Her phone buzzed from her pocket as she secured her helmet and motorcycle. She grabbed her phone and looked at the notification.
Just got dropped off by our family driver. Walking to the gate now. Are you here?
Becky grinned while she read the message from the familiar sender.
Whatever happened to hi and hello? 😮💨
She hit send and began walking out of the crowded parking lot. The Sun's noon heat was pricking her exposed skin, which is something that she hates. The recent heat index indicated that Summer has officially began, which is the best time to go to her favorite beaches... But not for walking nor driving under the extreme heat, which Becky just did.
Hii. Are you here already?
Is that better?Could be better. But it'll pass. I'm walking to the gate right now.
As Becky neared the gate, she fished her ID from her backpack and wore the lace around her neck. After she passed through the guards, she saw a tall young lady wearing a loose black shirt with a vintage band print, a washed off pair of jeans, and familiar white shoes. Freen brushed her hand through her long straight hair and adjusted the strap of her black bag on her shoulder.
Freen turned to Becky's direction, a smile immediately painting her face as she raised her hand to wave. Becky walked towards her, her heart beating quickly in her ribcage.
"Hi. Are you okay?" Freen asked.
Becky nodded. "Yeah. It's just so hot today."
"Let's get you upstairs, I'll blast the room's air-conditioning to a negative for you." Freen joked.
They began walking into their building and up to the second floor. As they slowly walked up the stairs, Becky noticed that Freen's hand was hovering over her lower back, gently trying to support her body without touching her. Becky definitely wouldn't fall backwards like a kid, yet Freen supported her upstairs like it was necessary. Becky brushed the thought off her mind and opened the door to their usual room.
Nam, Fay, and May were already inside. As soon as Becky walked through the door, the three girls looked towards her direction with a smile.
"You're all early too?" Becky's voice echoed in the cold room as she stepped inside.
"Yep. It's too hot to stay outside." May answered.
The three girls' smiles turned into a teasing grin when Becky felt Freen step into the room and closed the door behind them.
"Thuk khon sawatdii! You're all early too." Freen greeted the girls amusingly.
"That's exactly what Becky just told us." Fay teased.
Becky smiled, shook her head, and placed her backpack on one of the empty seats in the back row beside Nam. Freen walked to the front row and placed hers there.
"You brought your polaroid camera?" Freen asked Becky as she searched for something in her bag.
Becky opened her backpack to confirm if her camera is there and grabbed her glasses' case before putting the bag back down.
