It was a cold morning, snow was everywhere and I was trying so hard to run through the snow-covered path. Today was our first trip to Hogsmeade, and I needed to spend thirty minutes begging my father to let me go. I understand that now is not the time to go with Sirius Black on the loose, but everyone is going, so why can't I? He did eventually allow me to go but now I was late and everyone went without me. I was almost at the village entrance, and I was in a full sprint when I hit something hard. I sprang forward, hit my head, and rolled for a few meters before I stopped face stuck in the snow. When I stood up I noticed a few people looking at me weirdly, but they soon started ignoring me like nothing had happened. I turned around searching for the thing I had hit, but nothing. There was nothing but a lot of footprints. I gave up looking for the cause after a few moments and I decided to continue searching for someone I knew.
I found some girls that I recently started hanging out with. This year I decided to find more friends since I realized that I only have Draco, Blaise, and Hermione which of course is a normal number but they can't be the only people I know.
I sat at Brews and Stew's cafe and I drank some unusual drink with a weird combination of fruits. I was having a lot of fun when I heard loud voices of Crabbe and Goyle arguing about some ghost attack in front of The Shrieking Shack. I excused myself and decided to find out what they were talking about since I too had a weird ghostly experience and my body still hurts from that fall.
I like my new acquaintances but my friends are more fun to hang out with. There is always something crazy and weird happening with them and I love it so much.
I was walking towards Crabbe and Goyle when I noticed Hermione, Potter, and Weasley gathered in front of Three Broomsticks Inn talking about something. At one point Potter who looked angry tossed something over his shoulders and disappeared. I guess that that was my ghostly experience from this morning.
When invisible Potter went inside the inn I decided to come closer. I hid behind the inn and I found the closest window. There I saw a small group of middle-aged people going up the stairs. I tried using Wingardium Leviosa on my boots in hopes that it would lift me high enough for me to jump onto the next-floor terrace but it didn't work. It did lift me but I immediately lost balance and I turned upside down and again ended up in the pile of snow. Thanks to Merlin I like snow and winter in general, if it was any different I would have lost my mind.
The only thing I could do now was to wait and hope that I would hear something when Potter got out.
I was sitting behind a nearby tree and occasionally glancing towards Hermione and Weasley. A few minutes after I sat down the door of the inn flew open but no one came out. The duo stood up and started running towards something, so I decided to follow believing that the Potter was the one they were chasing.
We were at one clearing surrounded by really tall trees and when the duo came to a stop I hid behind the closest tree. Hermione slowly came closer to one big stone in the middle of the clearing and grabbed something in the air. The thing she relieved was none other than Potter, but there was something wrong with him. His head was down and soft whimpers were coming from him.
"He was their friend... and he betrayed them! HE WAS THEIR FRIEND!!!" He shouted so hard that even people from Hogsmeade could probably hear him. "I hope he finds me! Because when he does I'll be ready! When he does I'm gonna kill him!"
This felt like something that I shouldn't have listened to, but at least I now know the connection between Potter and Sirius Black and why everyone has been talking about the two of them the whole school semester. I decided to move from my hiding spot before they saw me standing there.
I got back to the village hoping to find Draco or Blaise. I did manage to find them but Pansy was with them and when I saw her clinging to Draco I decided not to approach them, instead, I decided to cut my trip short and I went to see my father. While on the way to Hogwarts, I noticed that the area close to my heart was aching. I assumed that it was due to the fall from this morning because I didn't want to admit that I hated the fact that Draco didn't move away from her.
The light in my dad's office was dark as always. He was sitting by the desk writing something. He was so deep in his thoughts that he didn't notice me before I sat down in front of him.
His body jerked from surprise. "What brings you here Christine?" He asked in a low tone.
"Can't a daughter see her father when she wishes?" I asked jokingly and he just scoffed.
"Fine! I do have a reason, in a way." I said giving up. "So on my recent trip to Hogsmeade, I found out few things about Potter." I grinned. "Did you know that Potter and Sirius Black are connected? Sirius is his Godfather!" I rushed my words wanting to say everything quickly. "And Potter found out that apparently, the reason his parents died is because of him. He betrayed them." I was grinning from ear to ear when I finished.
"I know that already." He said not lifting his head from the papers. And I was left speechless. So I did nothing?! I was so excited to tell him what I had found out that I didn't think of the possibility that he might know.
"Well, that is great!" I said sliding further into the chair. With my head tilted to the back I sighted. "What can I do to help you?!" I dropped my hands next to my sides in defeat.
"Well, I overheard that Potter will be having private lessons with Professor Lupin starting this semester, and I was thinking that it would be a great opportunity to learn that spell too. Since I didn't teach you that one yet." He crossed his hands in front of him while having a full grin on his face.
I jumped from the chair. "That is an amazing idea! I can finally spy on Potter without suspicion!" I hugged him tightly and he returned the hug.
While still hugging him I looked up. He was just so much taller than me. "I can finally help you!"
"You are always helping me, you don't know just how much." He planted a kiss on my forehead.
It was a quick peck but it meant so much. He hadn't kissed me since my last nightmare a few years ago. He is more of a huge person and that is what makes him special.
Our moment of bliss suddenly came to an end because something cracked behind us. Our heads spun around so quickly that my neck almost snapped, but there was nothing. We broke from our hug confused and concerned at the same time.
To change the topic I grabbed his hair. "Dad, your hair is sticky again."
"Immediately with the insults?" He raised an eyebrow.
"No. I just want an excuse to spend time with you. So can I wash it for you?" I pleaded.
"Don't you have anything else to do?" He asked moving back to his desk.
"Not really. Let me fetch the tools!" I perked up.
"What tools?" A flash of fear slid across his eyes. "What will you do to me?"
"You will see!"
The whole process lasted around thirty minutes, and by the end of it, I could see that he was getting impatient.
"You know that I could have used a spell for this." He said while I was blow-drying his hair with a spell.
"Your hair looks how it looks because you are only using a spell. It is not enough! Trust me I learned that on the hard way."
By the time I was finished, it was time for dinner. As always we went separately so no one questioned our relationship.
Besides the few weird looks directed at my dad nothing else happened. I took that as a positive thing because his hair was amazing and full of volume. Even some teachers looked at him weirdly.
Dad was moving quickly with his plan so by the end of the day I got called by Professor Lupin who informed me that I would be starting lessons with him and Potter in a few weeks. At first, Lupin asked me if I wanted to have one-on-one lessons because he was aware of my dislike of Potter, but I reassured him that I was already asking for too much by wanting to learn more than the school provided and that I would be civil with Potter to the best of my abilities.
And that is how after a long time I was learning something new from someone who was not my father, or any of my regular school professors.
