Week 2 is starting off with a bang with this wonderful poem that, fun fact, was written for two different contests! It was written for our weekly contest and also another that required the writers to include at least five words in their work out of a whole list of words, making this poem extremely unique, and its beautiful language and flow is what made Sara and I decide unanimously that this is the #1 pick for week 2!

The alarm rang so loud, it woke up the
winter. It woke after eons of sleep,
looking as frail as a cracked bridge
carrying the weight still, not out of love but
duty's drill, paler than the fog of indifference plaguing the streets beyond my windowsill.

The war is dead; dead and gone, not a
single silver secret left behind.
The alarm of victory is spreading like a flu,
the cruel, clinically chronic kind.
The war is dead; dead and gone, not a
single silver secret left behind.

The winter is here with a snowbaby
in its womb, bleeding, bleeding white; ectopic disaster, physically acute,
Looking as vivid as desire that lasts for a single night, a moment of childlike glee, golden glue mimicking fairy dust delight.

The war is dead; dead and gone, not a single silver soul unsullied.
The alarm blaring, a mudane mistake,
over graves of losses that still bleed.
The war is dead; dead and gone, not a single silver soul unsullied.
